Gallstones Home Remedy
Gallstones are small pebble-like hardened substances, which develop in the gall bladder. They can be asymptomatic for some, while others who experience severe symptoms may need treatment or surgery. Here are some of the gallstones home remedies.
In some people, gallstones do not create any symptoms and complications, while in some others, severe health problems can arise due to these stones. The most common treatment for gallstones is its removal through surgery, but there are oral medications too. Though there are many home remedies, even one gallstone home remedy can work wonders in the long term. Some people employ more than one gallstones home remedy simultaneously, for faster relief. Let us take a look at some gallstone remedies.
Herbal Remedies for Gallstone
Herbal treatment for gallstones can be of two types - those which are aimed at immediately reducing the severity of the symptoms over a long period, which should be taken on a regular basis in order to alleviate the gallstones or to prevent its formation. The most common herbal remedy for bile duct spasms is peppermint. Usually, 200mg is consumed three times a day. You can also use prickly ash plaster for the same purpose. This herb can be bought from Chinese medical shops, by the name of tian he gu tong. Make a paste of this herb by mixing it with water and fill the mixture in a cloth pouch. Apply this plaster on the skin, whenever needed. Another Chinese herb, known as gold coin grass, is believed to have some properties which help in alleviating gallstones. One of the gallstones home remedy includes the use of soaked almonds. Crush eight to ten almonds (soaked overnight) and consume early in the morning for at least two weeks.
Following are some of the gallstone remedies, which are used as a preventive or precautionary measure. Boldo tea is considered effective in flushing out gallstones. You have to consume three cups of boldo tea, three times a day. Soy lechitin is believed to reduce the production of cholesterol in the liver, whereas turmeric prevents the formation of cholesterol crystals. Milk thistle can also lower the cholesterol levels in the bile. Gentian bitters and greater celandine helps the body to produce bile and relieve spasms. Some people take alfalfa tablets for the smooth functioning of the liver and to prevent gallstones.
Other Remedial Measures
Apart from the herbal and natural remedies for gallstones, you can also resort to some lifestyle and dietary changes, which can also be helpful in averting a gallbladder removal surgery. You can start with the basic rule of drinking more water. At least 10 glasses of water should be consumed daily to cleanse the organs, including the gallbladder. Foods to avoid gallstones include those which can increase the cholesterol levels, like dairy and red meat. Like water, a high fiber diet is also very important for the body. It is better to consume water soluble fiber, which facilitates the cleansing of the liver, kidneys and gallbladder. For this purpose, you should include three to five servings of vegetables and one to three servings of fruits in your daily diet. Vitamin C is also effective in converting cholesterol into bile, apart from boosting the overall immunity of the body.
A gallstones home remedy can help you in two ways. Some of these can be used to obtain relief from the symptoms of gallstones, while some others can prove effective in the long run. However, it is always better to prevent the occurrence of gallstones and once detected, treating it immediately. And remember to always seek the advice of your doctor, before using any herbal medicine.
