Fusible Interfacing Instructions
Most of you would be knowing, what interfacing is? For those who don't know, let me tell you that interfacing is an extra layer of fabric stitched to provide support and shape to the main fabric. Interfacing is most commonly used in collars, cuffs, necklines, waistbands, etc. Use of fusible interfacing for handbags, purses and other such items is also common. The interfacing is first fused to the piece of fabric and then, sewing this piece to rest of the part is done. There are lot of interfacing options available to confuse you over the right choice. So which one should you opt for and further, how to use it? Here's how to choose the right interfacing.

How to Choose the Right Interfacing?

The first thing you must do while choosing the right interfacing is to keep your main fabric in mind. Sew-in and fusible are the two types of interfacing styles available for giving the required support to the fabric. These are available in a variety of weights, ranging from sheer to heavy weight and thickness. While deciding the right interfacing, remember that it must be slightly lighter in weight than the main fabric. But in some cases your light weight fabric might required a heavy weight interfacing. This is because some embroidery or beadwork has to be done over this part, which needs interfacing as a support to the delicate fabric. Fusible interfacing will provide your fabric a crisp touch. Also, using this is easier than the sew-in interfacing. Once you fuse this with the main fabric you have a single piece available for further stitching. You can take your main fabric with you while shopping for interfacing and try various combination, and opt for the one that looks the best. This will also help to check that the interfacing is not changing the color of your fabric, when its placed below the fabric. Let us move on to the next part, fusible interfacing instructions.

Easy Fusible Interfacing Instructions

Bonding the fusible interfacing properly to the main fabric is very essential for an ultimate look. Following the below mentioned instructions, you can achieve the best results.

Fusible Interfacing Instructions # 1: Start with the iron settings. Set your iron to wool and steam setting. Though irons might vary, this is the generally recommended setting. If the interfacing does not adhere to the main fabric properly, you can move the setting to higher temperature.

Fusible Interfacing Instructions # 2: Now find the fusible side of the interfacing. You would ask, how to do this? It's easy, the rough side or the shiny side is the fusible side of the interfacing. Now place the fusible interfacing over your main fabric. Make sure that you have placed the main fabric's wrong side upwards and interfacing fusible-side downwards. It means the fusible side must touch the wrong side of the main fabric. Remember to align the interfacing and main fabric properly. Once its fused you cannot make any changes,

Fusible Interfacing Instructions # 3: Now take a press cloth and just dampen it. Now place it over the fusible interfacing, make sure it is a bit larger than the interfacing.

Fusible Interfacing Instructions # 4: Move the iron over the area to be fused. Do not move it back and forth without lifting up. Move in one direction, lift it up, and again move it in the same direction, overlap over same area for a few times and move to the next area below it. Use downward pressure while pressing.

Fusible Interfacing Instructions # 5: Once you finish pressing fabric with iron, let it cool. Remember that cooling of fused fabric is important, just as pressing iron for proper fusing is. So let it cool completely, and then you can use it for further stitching. Read more on sewing machine for beginners.

Remember that once the interfaced fabric is cool, lightly pull the layers apart and check the bond. A perfect bond is the result of a right combo of steam, pressure and time.
