Chad's P.O.V
he betrayed us. I can't believe it.
He was our best friend, and we trusted him!
I passed Xanthe as she ran down the stairs, but I couldn't reach out and give her condolences.
I was blind to all emotion.
Her high-heeled boots making a huge clattering on the cold stone, and she was weeping hysterically.
How could she have been so happy to die? To leave me?
I went to the main hall. Where they kept all the coffins. Heavy cloths were hung over each coffin.
Red for our clan, and blue for the other.
I walked up the grandest coffin. Made of white ivory, and silver.
No cloth was laid over this casket, as the inhabitant belonged to both clans.
This, this was Ella's coffin.
I took a deep breath and opened the lid, mentally preparing myself for what I would see.
A beautiful young woman. Dead as the result of war between her two families, but I saw... nothing.
I gasped, and blinked twice.
No body. Ella... had gone.
I closed the casket briskly and walked out of the hall at a quick pace, almost breaking into a run.
When I got to my parent's room, I discovered all my friends were already inside.
(bar Xanthe and xanther.)
"Hey guys. I have some... distressing news." I said.
Father nodded gravely, "as distressing as what happened yesterday, or this morning?" he asked.
I am tensed. "Worse." and they gasped. 'Nothing could be as bad as Ella dying.? Could it?' I heard Kate ask all the mates to hold hands, and I got upset.
If Ella was here... but she isn't. She isn't anywhere.
"Father, Ella is gone," I said.
"Yes. I know. She died." father said.
"No, I mean her body. It's not in the casket where you placed her." I said.
He looked distressed. "what is the meaning of this?" he said angrily.
"Do any of you know anything about this?" he demanded, but all the girls were too shocked to say anything.
Kate looked like she was going to cry again. She had been crying non stop since the fight started.
"There is only one rational conclusion then." mother said.
"Which is..?" I asked. Any conclusion was a conclusion at least.
I needed to know what had happened to Ella. She might not be alive, but she is still my wife.
"The rebels have taken her," she said.
"Ok. So we go to war. Again. And I will not stop until I have her back to me." I said, and marched out to get ready.
Within moments, the alarm had sounded, telling us we were at war. Again.
As soon as we were ready, we stood in the exact formation we did yesterday. But an empty place was where Ella used to stand.
We turned and ran to the battlefield. I could cry and no one would notice.
They would think the wind was making my eyes water.
But I hadn't cried since I saw her lying there, on the floor. Dead.
All these emotions were bottled up inside me, and were fighting to get out.
We stood face to face, me looking ragged, and tired. I hadn't slept since that night with Ella.
where I got about 10 minutes sleep because I was just so worried about her.
Ella's grandfather looked like he hadn't slept in a month either.
"She wasn't supposed to die." he said, and offered me his hand to shake, as the leaders of clans should.
"So is that why you stole her corpse? Because you felt guilty?" I asked indecorously.
"I didn't take her body? How can you even suggest a thing of her grandfather! Her own flesh and blood!!" he cried.
I didn't believe him.
We stepped back and turned.
When I opened my eyes, there was a wolf in the way. A female.
She had the same shade of fur as Ella, her father and her father's father.
She had the same eyes as Ella had, and her mother before her.
It was Ella.
But she was dead.
She looked into my eyes, and into my soul.
"I never died." she said, by telepathy, and once she was satisfied that we weren't about to fight, she fled.
Into the sunset, and out of my life.
For real this time..
the real end.. (until the sequel. maybe. I don't know yet :D)
