Functional Resume Samples

Functional resumes are good for people that have weak experience, are changing careers or what to highlight there skills first.
The net has a huge array of resume samples scattered everywhere, some good, others very bad. You may be looking to find one that is close to what your career is and perhaps bum off it. I highly recommend that you don't do this. The biggest reason is because you won't be able to highlight your most desirable skills to an employer from someone else's resume.

Don't get me wrong, there is nothing against referencing off someone else's work, but coping word for word is only hurting yourself. You aren't listing you best skills or capabilities from somebody's resume. To do this you need to write your own resume.

To help you out here is what a basic functional resume consist of.

Functional Format Components:
  • Objective
  • Accomplishments
  • Capabilities
  • Employment
  • Education
The idea of a functional resume is to take your achievements and capabilities out of the experience section and put them in the corresponding sections. This focuses the employer's attention on what you can do and have done instead of where you've worked and when.

Only after you are able to knock the socks off of the employer with your skills and accomplishments, you should introduce your work history in a brief format with dates.

To know what I am talking about here is an Example (Remember, reference only)

As you can see, this person's skills are bolded and are put in a bulleted format to draw the employer's attention to it and help them read it quickly. Another thing to use when describing your skills and accomplishments is specific numbers and action words to make yourself look and sound like a really good worker. Don't lie in your resume but keep it as real as you can.

In Summary

Hopefully by now I have been able to give you some insight in what to look for if you do decide to use someone else's functional resume to "cheat" off of. If your writing your resume you should be more than well off in constructing a very powerful tool to landing the position your gunning for.
