Fun Graduation Cards

For centuries, people have been sending cards to mark special occasions and send good wishes. Graduation cards mark that special occasion in the graduate’s life. The cards can be formal or informal; however, the right card can make it so much more fun. You can make your own excellent fun graduation cards or you can buy one in a store or online. Before deciding on the right card, spend some time thinking about the graduate. What kind of sense of humor do they have, what kind of fun do you have together and are there any funny stories involving the graduate. You can use the information to get ready to choose the perfect card.

Fun graduation cards are only really fun, if they mean something to the graduate. If you know them well, you could work through the things that they find funny or even just humorous. Who is their favorite comedian. What is the comedian’s style of humor. What films and actors do they laugh at? What cartoons do they like and what jokes do they love? Also, have a think about any funny stories involving the graduate. Think about what makes you laugh together. What are their favorite TV shows? Hopefully, this will let you bring out some ideas for the kind of images you could use and the wording that would make you laugh. One thing to check is that the favorite jokes, actors, movies, cartoons, books, TV shows and funny stories stand the test of time. Are they still funny? Humor can be rather current and that would mean, it is safer to use more current material. Indeed, the graduate may have outgrown some of the things you think are funny. If you do not have close contact with the graduate, it is difficult to send a humorous card. In that case, you may wish to take advice from friends and family of the graduate.

Think of the emotional response you wish the graduate to have, when they read your card. For a fun graduation card, clearly you want them to smile. However, you may also want the graduate to remember that behind the fun, there was a lot of love and affection. A reminder of a funny story when you were together, may be just the thing to evoke that emotion.

A fun graduation card can have a lot of possible images and written material that does need to be condensed to one simple image and a few lines. This is not easy to do. Sometimes, spending time looking through cards in a store will help you find the one you like. Perhaps, you can find one with a picture of a favorite comedian or actor on it. They could be saying their catch phrase and include a special congratulations message or joke.

I do prefer to make my own very personal fun cards. There are lots of ways of doing this. The best start is not to be concerned about producing the card, there is a simple process for this. Just concentrate on the design and wording. The paper should be of the same thickness as for store bought cards, although it should be able to run through your printer. My preferred image is a photo which captures the funny moment involving the graduate. Using the picture for inspiration, you can write great wording. I don’t expect the finished product to look totally professional, but it will look good. For a friend I once used a photo of us standing leaning on a farm fence with sheep in the background. My friend worked on his family farm, when his father was on holiday. He had just been telling me that he was the boss and the animals would do what he told them. Just after the photo was taken the sheep charged us and we had to escape. I set the card up with the photo on the front and congratulations written under it. Inside I wrote congratulations, may be now the sheep will know who is boss. I have used a number of photos and related wording to have fun with friends this way. I think everyone can do it.
