Frozen (1)

Helen Megan has power. The Universe is attuned to her emotions. A boy comes to her one night, but doesn't reveal why he was there...
Something itched my neck, stinging against the cold. I watched my friends race ahead, flaging down the last bus of the night. Their steps faded, and I was now alone, listening to my boots slap the slush on the road. The stars were bright, lighting the trees and falling snow. I caught a snowflake on my tongue, letting it sizzle and melt in my mouth. Soon I was twirling towards the bus station, catching snowflakes in my mouth and hair. They felt good against my skin, melting in little drops against my warm cheeks. The snow started to swirl and fall faster, picking up on the wind. The night could not have been more perfect. We finally convinced the District School Board to let us host the prom in the Town Hall, the Student Council would be pleased. Even though prom was months away, we had something to work with.

"Hey!" someone shouted. I turned around, a black figure was walking towards me, their shape blurred by the high lit windows behind them. I waited, thinking it was someone from the District School Board.

"Yes?" i asked, when the person had come close enough. "What do you need?" I held out my hand, but they waved it away.

"Your permission, of course."

"Permission? We already signed the contract for the Hall, I don’t-" I noticed it, everything was wrong. There was a single snowflake, raised infront of my eyes. It did not fall, it was frozen in the air. All the snowflakes were frozen. The cars on the road were stopped, I turned and my friends didn't move, the exhaust from the bus was hanging in the air, not dissipating. I stumbled back from the stranger, fearing him. My eyes traveled up the flag pole beside me, watching the flag. It neither moved or made a sound. In fact, everything was quiet. I raised my watch to my ear, nothing ticked, the hands went un-moving. Time had stopped.

"Your permission, please." he begged. His hood had slipped from his head. Golden hair fell from it and onto his shoulders. I touched my own hair, proving I hadn't stopped with the time. It was still there, moving unlike the people and objects around me.

"For what?" my voice broke, giving away my fear.

"To continue, obviously." his voice heavy with sarcasm.

"Then why did you stop it in the first place?" He was making no sense, not seeming to notice i kept backing away.

"You stopped it, and I am now wondering why."

I couldn't reply, because he was gone, the snow falling on my eyelashes. The bus hummed, making me jump. "Helen! The bus is about to leave!" one of my friends called on me. I stumbled and groaned towards them, getting on the bus and handing the driver my pass. My head was foggy, I was in a daze. I had stopped time? impossible. The stranger was the one to blame.

"Is something the matter?" a voice close to my ear asked. I blinked, coming back to the inside of the bus, my mind leaving the company of the stranger. I looked over to the seat beside me, where my eyes found Amie, my best friend.

"Fine.' My smile felt fake to me, but Amie accepted it as real. Amie, Tara and Kelp discussed the nights events, and how happy Student Council will be tomorrow. My mind wandered, focusing on different ideas and opinions I had about the stranger. Who was he? Why did he have the crazy idea that time had stopped? I must have imagined the whole thing. At least I hoped so.
