1) ~Like a Shadow~
Katie and Kayla have always been best friends. Throughout their childhood they were always inseparable, elementary school, junior high, high school, and they even went to the same college. They both grew up in Massena, New York, right next to the Canadian border. They then both attended NYU in New York City where they of course were roommates. After they graduated, they stayed in NYC and rented an apartment together.
Kayla is a shorter blonde standing at about 5'6". She was born March 17, 1987 and is now 23 attending Law School at NYU while working part-time in the mail room at a law firm based in the city. She has long blonde hair. Of the two, she has always been more conservative and shy.
Katie is about the opposite. She's 5'8" and has shoulder length brunette hair. She was born September 30, 1987. She now works at a newspaper trying to get noticed for her journalism. Although she's a very talented writer, she has trouble containing her personal life. She gets bored at work so she decides to quit at random moments. Since she and Kayla graduated college 6 months ago, she has had 3 separate jobs, and has not been able to move up in her career whatsoever.
One night in mid October, Katie convinced Kayla to go out to a Grand Opening at a club with her. Katie declared that they were both on the mission of finding new boyfriends since they had both recently gotten out of long-term relationships. Kayla, of course, was the designated driver so she was staying sober that night. At reaching the club, Katie immediately starts dancing, flirting, and of course; drinking. Kayla, however, finds a table and orders food in hopes of convincing Katie that she needs to eat something.
Neither of them realizes that this night will change their lives. A tragic event will result in death and a hard life facing them. Can one survive without the other? Can they let someone new replace the spot that had before always been filled? Is looking to an old friend always a good answer or could it make things seem worse? How will Kayla learn to live without her best friend?
2) ~Memories That Follow Me~
"He was driving me to my house after a concert in Birmingham. I remember stopping at a gas station in Dudley, and getting some soda's to drink while he filled up the car. When I came back outside, he wasn't inside so I got in the car to wait for him to return." I explained as I sat in the hospital bed and the cop tapped his foot to the sound of my heart monitor. "After about five minutes, a girl got into the car and started the engine. I asked her what she was doing as she rolled down the window but a hand reached through the window and then I woke up here. I don't know anything else." The cops expression stayed serious as he said, "That isn't a lot of information, is there anything-" But Jake cut him off before he could continue. "Look, Mr. whatever your name is. She needs rest, and I'm here to make sure she gets it. If you have anymore questions you can ask when she's out of the hospital. " Jake took my hand and held it since I couldn't move much of my body.
"I just have a few more questions," The cop started but Jake pushed the nurse button and a tiny red head walked in, "What do you need?" she asked. "I think she needs some sleep, is there anything you can do? She's under a lot of stress." Jake said quietly as the nurse gave the cop a dirty look. "Yes, of course. I'll be right back." With that the nurse and the cop left the room, so Jake and I were left in an awkward silence.
Before the accident, Jake had confessed his love for me, but I was with Trevor so I had walked away, leaving Jake nearly in tears. Jake and I have been best friends as long as I can remember. He's 27, four years older than me, but he has always looked out for me; like the brother I never had. When I was 14, my parents both died in a plane crash. His family took me in, and I lived there while he was away at college. When he came back we were still good friends but I had given up on the childhood crush I had on him. I wouldn't admit that I loved him to anyone, but some said it was obvious as much as I had wanted it not to be true. Jake has always been a bit of a player, but he never cheated or treated a girl badly.
Trevor and I met the year Jake first went to college and I guess I was looking for someone to fill that hole, and Trevor fit perfectly. We started dating after we'd known each other for two years and were the perfect couple throughout high school. In college we stayed together and nearly perfect. We were going to the concert in Birmingham for our six year anniversary. Now, it may be our last. "Hey, don't cry!" Jake whispered as I pulled myself back into reality.
"What am I going to do without him?" I sobbed, as the nurse came back in. "Don't talk like that. The police will find him, and he'll be ok." Jake sighed and stepped back as the nurse started to insert the medicine from a syringe into the I.V. that led to my arm.
I watched as Jake stared at me, until my eyelids started to fall. I slowly started to fall into a deep sleep. I was sitting in the car, the girl jumped in. I looked in the side mirror, and saw Trevor being shoved into the trunk of a dark-colored car. "NO-" I started to scream when the girl started to roll down the window. Now I'm sitting in my old room at my parents house, and Trevor is sitting across from me. "Think about it, remember the car," He whispered. As he started to fade away. There was a loud noise and I glanced out the window and saw a plane crashing with my parents faces visible through a window. When I turned around, Trevor had disappeared. Where is he?
3)~Just a Page~
All through my life, I've lived in the background. I haven't really been close to any of my friends because I don't trust people very well. That is until I met Seth. I remember the first time I saw him, at a Wal-Mart in the toy section. I was with my mom who was looking for birthday presents for my nieces and nephews. I caught him staring at me, and I stared at him too when he didn't look away. As I followed my mom out of the isle, he stepped behind me and whispered, "I'm in love with you." I was only 13, and I believed him. We didn't date in high school, since we lived about 30 miles apart. Finally when I graduated, we went on a trip with a few friends to Vegas. One crazy night resulted in a surprise wedding, and guess who were the stars.
It's been 6 months now, and we're falling apart. Can we patch things together or will we end up just being a divorce statistic? He seems to think we're just a page, when I believe we could be a full book if we tried.
4) ~Living my Life~
It's hard to balance a career and a personal life. Matt just started college at University of Denver in Colorado, he's playing on the hockey team. His goal since he was 5 was to be drafted on to an NHL team. He's played hockey on teams since he was 6, and used to play in his garage and on frozen ponds since he was 3 or 4 years old. Now that he plays hockey for a college, his drafting time is running out so he needs to focus all of his energy on his career.
Can an 18 year old work hard enough in order to complete his goal, or will his personal life get in the way? When Matt meets Lucy, he begins to think his life goals, and eventually thinks he wants to give up on the NHL. Is it possible for him to give up a lifetime goal for a girl? Will she let him throw it all away?
I want to start a few new stories, but I'm not sure which ones would be the most interesting...I would really love some suggestions, and your ideas/comments. These are just some basic ideas that would probably change some in the story... Thanks in advance :)
