Fried Tofu Recipes

We all know how proteins are important in our daily diet. They are essential for muscle building and normal functioning of the body parts. Tofu is an excellent protein substitute for the vegetarian people. Here are some easy to make fried tofu recipes.
Fried Tofu Recipes
Food is the main source of proteins, which are considered as the building blocks of body. We can get adequate amounts of proteins from different foods including eggs, dairy products, fish, meat, legumes and vegetables. Meat is the richest source of proteins. But what’s about the vegetarian people? The answer is tofu. Tofu is an excellent source of proteins for the vegetarians. It is made up of soybeans, coagulant or curdling agent and water. It is rich in proteins as well as calcium. It has good ability to absorb new flavors through marinades and spices. Due to its high nutritional values, tofu is a staple of Asian cuisines. Nowadays, it has gained an extreme popularity throughout the globe. Tofu can be creamy, soft, firm or extra firm in texture. For making the fried tofu recipes, a firm or extra firm tofu is required.

Fried tofu is simply mouth-watering and it can be dipped in any kind of sauce. Deep-frying provides the tofu a crispy texture and golden color. Fried tofu can be used in a variety of dishes such as noodle dish, fried rice, salads, vegetarian soups or vegetable dishes. It adds a great flavor to these dishes as well as makes them protein-rich and healthy. Read on to know some lip-smacking fried tofu recipes.

Fried Tofu with Peanut

It’s a wonderful appetizer and snack. Sweet cilantro and peanut sauce add a rich flavor to tofu preparation.

Ingredients

1 bag tofu, cubed and deep-fried

For making a sauce
5-7 sprigs cilantro, chopped
2 tbsp peanuts, roasted and crushed
2 tbsp sugar
1 tsp ground fresh chili paste
1 tbsp vinegar
1 pinch salt

Preparation

First cut tofu cubes into half and place them on cooking sheet in the oven at 350°F, in order to toast them. If you want to make them crispy, then use low heat and keep them in the over for a longer time. Flip them every few minutes to toast all sides.

Now let’s make the sauce. In a microwave bowl, mix together sugar, vinegar, chili paste and salt. Heat it for a minute, until sugar is dissolved.

Then add chopped cilantro and then peanuts.

While serving, sauce can be mixed with tofu or kept on its side.

Fried Chocolate Tofu

A wonderful combination of tofu and chocolate makes a healthier option for breakfast. The kids would simply love it.

Ingredients

1 block of firm tofu, pressed and dried for 1-12 hours
2 cups water
5 tsp espresso powder
2 tsp cayenne powder
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
2 tsp cinnamon
2 eggs
2 tsp ginger
2 cups water
Flour
½ cup oil

Preparation

Mix together water and espresso powder and heat until simmering. Then add cayenne powder, ginger and cinnamon and stir it well. Then add gradually add chocolate chips, with a continuous stirring. Make sure that chocolate will not burn.

Cut tofu to bite size pieces. Thinner pieces offer more concentrated taste.

When chocolate is at medium watery boil, add tofu pieces. Stir continuously, until chocolate becomes thick and it starts to burn.

Then drain tofu from chocolate.

Cover tofu pieces with beaten eggs. Then cover tofu with flour and place in a cooking pan, which contains heated oil and 2 tsp of cayenne.

While you are frying tofu pieces, keep the chocolate mixture simmering uncovered, until it is reduced.

Add chocolate mixture on tofu and serve hot.

Crispy Fried Tofu

Ingredients

1 block firm tofu
2 tbsp flour
3 tbsp nutritional yeast
2 tsp garlic powder
2 tbsp olive oil
½ tsp pepper
½ tsp salt

Preparation

Cut the tofu into ½ inch cubes.

In a small bowl, combine together tofu, flour, yeast, garlic powder, pepper and salt and mix gently to coat the tofu. Or you can keep all the ingredients in a zip-lock bag or covered container and shake well, so that tofu cubes are covered well with remaining ingredients.

In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium heat and add tofu cubes. Cook for about 4-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until tofu becomes lightly crispy and golden brown.
