French Open 2010: Federer Through to Second Round

World number 1 Roger Federer has successfully moved to the second round of the French Open with a straight set victory in the first round.....
Defending Champion and top seed Roger Federer wasted no time in dispatching Peter Luczak of Australia in the first round of the 2010 French Open, winning in straight sets 6-4, 6-1, 6-2. After winning the French Open last year, albeit in the absence of Nadal, who lost in the 4th round last year, Roger Federer has come into this year's French Open with more confidence than ever.

In spite of being handed a tough draw, and in spite of his poor run on clay, many think that Roger Federer has it in him to successfully defend his 2009 title, and his only one here at Roland Garros. Will Federer be able to capture his 17th Grand Slam is anybody's guess, but the Swiss star is notorious for performing well in Grand Slams.

Playing cautiously at first, Federer took the first set 6-5, and then never looked back, taking the second and third 6-1,6-2 respectively. A slight disagreement with the umpire at set point in the first set, that could have been problematic, was put behind by the Swiss star, who went on to take not only the first set, but the second and third also relatively easily. People will be following Federer's progress closely, and will be hoping for a Federer-Nadal final.

With this victory, the millions of Federer fans will be pleased and will be looking forward now to his second round match. In the second round, Federer will play Colombia's Alejandro Falla. Stay Tuned.
