Freelance Writing Jobs and Scams
Many individuals think that chucking their 9-5 jobs and taking up work-at-home or freelancing is an end to all their problems. Like everything else in life, it is not as simple as it is made out to be. Read on to know about the perils of freelancing.
With more than 75% of US families deciding to start a work-at-home enterprise in the near future, freelancing should certainly be one of the most talked about concepts in the professional and corporate circles today. Of course, Freelancing is quite lucrative as compared to the traditional 9-5 Job, but there are as many hassles in freelancing, as you would face in a 9-5. It is only you who can decide whether freelancing is your cup of tea or not. While most other articles and websites will tell you about the advantages of freelance, here are some disadvantages of freelancing:
Disadvantage of Freelancing # 1: The Big Three (Or Four): Though Freelancing has become a vast and concrete concept today, there are only three or four major websites through which people can take any viable freelancing projects - something like the Internet. With eight million websites, there are only three or four websites that we know and use in our everyday life.
Disadvantage of Freelancing # 2: Transaction Hell: Just like IM hell, there is transaction hell. Transactions are not as simple as one would expect, with some websites even taking an entire week to transact between accounts. Even after this, the cuts that these websites take out of your payments are too heavy to ignore. So, it's a dual sword that cuts you down to size, the time between the transactions and the cuts that you have to endure, and you end up wondering why the reason behind these cuts, because $40 transaction in 7 days certainly doesn't tell you of a good service.
Disadvantage of Freelancing # 3: Employer Is King: Even the biggest website will grumblingly agree that their rules, regulation and working is inclined more towards the employers than the employees. Employees have to ensure various things without which they and their work are out in the open, while employers have to do nothing but just be there. Of course, most dupes in freelance happen due to the stupidity of the employer, but there are cases where the smartest of employees have been duped, only to find out that they have little or no support from the website where they got the freelance assignment from.
Disadvantage of Freelancing # 4: Minefields: You would be surprised to know what you can do if you diligently work for an employer who does not pay you your hard-earned money. Freelancing is still in its early stages and the area is wrought with scams and unscrupulous people looking out to make a bit of money, either by stealing your services or by stealing your money, or both.
Disadvantage of Freelancing # 5: Oh! To Be Unsure!: Unless you are not a veteran in the freelance business, you will be at a loss of words everytime you hear something weird from the client, and this can range from rewrites to postponement of your payment because of the following reasons:
· I don't have money in my pay pal.
· The assignment was given to four different people and two of them did not do their work and therefore I cannot pay you (for the now).
· I forget.
So is freelancing bad? Should one not do it? Is this one of those grandmotherly articles that's telling you get back to your basics and your office attire? - No. All I say is that freelancing is as risky as it is high paying and there are various disadvantages that almost overshadow the advantages. Therefore, what you should do is think as well as act wisely before you jump into freelance, like taking care of your finances for a year before chucking the job, because the Sandbox of Freelancing lasts for at least a year or two.
