Freedom and love

The two most precious things in the world are love and freedom. Without freedom life would be meaningless, and without love the world would become dry and apathetic.

Yet, the nature of these two are apparently at loggerheads with each other. If love wants to control, freedom releases. If love wants to protect, freedom is about taking risks. Love is almost totalitarian, whereas freedom gives us independence.

Still, we long for both love and freedom. The desire to be loved is as deep rooted in us as the desire to be free from all shackles.

It seems that the love that we receive during our childhood lasts only as long as we are young. Perhaps the most widespread delusion among young adults is the belief that they are loved just like they were in childhood.

If only love and freedom can be combined in compatible proportions, we can lead much happier lives.
