Fox News Reporter Fired Over Review of Leaked Film "Wolverine"
A Fox entertainment reporter was fired after illegally downloading and then reviewing the new Wolverine film, which was produced by none other than 20th Century Fox.
Entertainment blogger Roger Friedman regularly reported for Fox News until a recent move put him in the crosshairs of big business. Friedman, who viewed a leaked version of the new "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" film and then promptly reviewed it, was fired by Fox following the discovery of the movie review. The leaked version, which has been traveling through cyberspace seemingly at the speed of light, is certainly nothing new, but apparently Friedman added insult to injury when he reviewed the movie prior to its official release in theaters.
In his review, Friedman noted in his Fox 411 column that he had downloaded the 20th Century Fox film and that doing so was "so much easier than going out in the rain." He also went on to say that the movie "exceeds expectations at every turn." The movie, which focuses on the early days of the Wolverine character – played by Hugh Jackman – is set to be officially launched on May 1.
Fox News put forth a statement that read, "Fox News representatives and Roger Friedman met today and mutually agreed to part ways immediately. Fox News appreciates Mr. Friedman’s ten years of contributions to building foxnews.com and wishes him success in his future endeavors. Mr. Friedman is grateful to his colleagues for their friendship and support over the past decade." The irony of the situation, of course, is that Friedman was going directly against the wishes of his employer, which not only owns the blog on which Friedman posts, but also the movie company that put forth the Wolverine film. Oddly, Friedman seems to speak openly about pirating movies as well, noting that "I may finally catch up with Paul Rudd in ‘I Love You, Man.’" No word if he’s yet received a subpoena for his admitted illegal actions, but it certainly won’t be surprising if and when he does.
