Formula One Rules Being Revamped

The 2010 Formula 1 season will see the introduction of new rules.
The break between the 2009 and 2010 Formula One racing season has arguably seen some of the most transfers and changes as far as teams and drivers are concerned. Now, if you were wondering what more could possibly happen, then check this out. Even the officials have got into the 'change' act, and are set to revamp some rules, and more importantly, the points system.

If you had settled to the fact that the 2010 season too would have the usual 10 or 11 teams, which then made up of 20 or 22 drivers on the grid, then you will be happy to know that the competition is just going to get more exciting and tougher. Yeah! The 2010 Formula One calendar will see 13 teams competing. That means there will be 26 drivers on the grid in all the races. Now that's surely some good news for the fans. And to make things even more competitive for the teams, and exciting for the fans, the Formula One Governing Body (FIA) proposed a change in the points system, and the same has been approved by the World Motor Sport Council (WMSC). According to this new points system, as many as the top 10 finishers will be awarded points, as opposed to the earlier top 8 places. The following table will explain it better.

Position Earlier Point System New Point System
1st 10 25
2nd 8 20
3rd 6 15
4th 5 10
5th 4 8
6th 3 6
7th 2 5
8th 1 3
9th NA 2
10th NA 1

So that's more points, more drivers, more competition, and more excitement. Now the only thing left is for Michael Schumacher to confirm that he will be racing for Mercedes. Wouldn't that be the icing on the cake? 2010, here we come!
