Forgiving the Forgotten - 64 - For the Dragon and the Phoenix
CHAPTER 64: FOR THE DRAGON AND THE PHOENIX:
TAEEN'S POV:
I dodged the missiles easily and was about to disarm one of the aircraft when I saw Amon, ensconced in a secondary barrier with Weiss and the machine in it.
NO... NO... NO... this could not be happening.
I lost control over the strings that immobilized Weiss and he lunged at Amon with his straight sword.
I felt a sharp tingling sensation over my back after which two huge pairs of wings sprouted from my back. One flap and I was racing against time to stop Weiss from impaling Amon.
Faster... Amon! Amenatsu... no... I would not let the same man who took away my baby to take away my husband. No. Not happening.
I saw the sword curve as Amon tried to summon his sword. Blood spurted from him as he recoiled in the air. Before Weiss could strike him once again... I summoned the golden phoenix in its ultimate form- the last feather.
It was a light spear which if touched with once, was fatal.
Amon! My heart thumped madly as I saw him begin to lose consciousness. His eyes were losing the blackness, the black dragon was falling, leaving Amenatsu to fend for himself.
I saw Weiss pull back his arm for the final blow.
My hands, of their own accord, threw the spear at him from a very close distance.
Weiss stared at me with shock and his weapon rolled out of his hand to the ground below. He was dead.
I summoned my weapon and disintegrated it.
Amenatsu's limp body began falling downwards. I knew I could make it. I could make it. folding the wings I plummeted down to catch up with him. Midway, I caught him in my arms. As if he was hugging me.
Tears in my eyes, relief in my soul I landed slowly.
Mia and her nurses were rushing towards us.
My knees buckled underneath me and both Amenatsu and I crumpled to the ground. I was alive, as was Amenatsu.
"Ta! Hang on!"
I laughed softly hugging Amenatsu's shoulders. Happy that we had done it.
At a distance, the ruin made huge disgruntling noises and began consuming itself. Our men rushed to secure the people misled by Weiss towards a safer place.
Ah... Amenatsu....
"Ta?"
I looked up with blurry vision. I was tired. So tired.
Hundreds of Jeromians looked on as my wings dissolved into golden dust and settled around us.
The dust would give Amenatsu power. A little bit, at least to savor victory.
I was right. Ru and the others came rushing to us. They were still a long way off. Mia looked on with her tear glazed face as I kissed Amenatsu. The dust dissolved around us. Amenatsu was taking it up.
A hoarse voice said to me, "Are you accompanying me to hell?"
I looked at the black hair falling messily in my lap and said to a very tired Amenatsu, "No... I'm taking you to paradise...."
The black dragon and the golden phoenix had ended the war. The men from both the sides walked away from the mechanical hulk as it self-destructed.
Mia and Hayame rushed around taking the injured from the air force to the camps.
My head was beginning to hurt. I needed some sleep. And I needed a very warm Amenatsu with his shampooed hair next to me.
**
The war had ended faster and much less simpler than anybody had thought. But the people feared us more now, they had seen what both of us were capable of. It was alright. We had an even more powerful son. Dawn... you'll be joining us soon.
Vestavia and Dior were placed under direct jurisdiction of the king till a suitable Prime was found.
Jerome, after all the war had once again become peaceful.
Amenatsu and I had taken a break from our duties to recuperate.
It was still early afternoon when we were dragged to the main hall because the prophecy master had come.
"Your highnesses... I would like to thank you for saving your home."
'Your home' sounded nice... I thought.
Amenatsu, the ever humble said, "Any king and queen would have done just that...."
I nodded in agreement.
The old man, with his beady eyes looked in my direction, and spoke reverently, "Your highness Ta... you fulfilled the prophecy of annihilating the cause of your first born's apparent death.... there was a part of the prophecy that I couldn't decipher beyond the point that our highness the king, would expire early in the war. I couldn't decipher it because both of you manifested in your true forms- the black dragon and the golden phoenix."
"Thank you for looking out for Jerome. It means a lot...."
He turned but paused and said, "There will be two stars that will shine. Wait for them...."
He once again turned to go, we stood up as he left and the moment the huge doors closed we slumped back into our chairs.
"I wonder what the master meant...."
I whispered as Amenatsu played with a strand of my hair.
"So... he was the one who brought out the dragon in you...."
He nodded and closed his eyes as we sat slumped in our respective thrones, "Your brother gave me one hell of a job!"
