Forgiving the Forgotten - 61 - The Stirrings of a War

CHAPTER 61: THE STIRRINGS OF A WAR:

TAEEN'S POV:

I glanced at Amenatsu. He was still sleeping, a frown graced his face. I gazed down at him propped on my elbow. The first sun was dawning. Amenatsu's profile shone in the brilliance of the sun. I stroked his head and in moments the frown disappeared. The weather outside seemed peaceful. How long would we live in the illusion of all things fine?
I allowed myself to fall back onto the bed. Amenatsu turned towards me in his sleep. His hair cascaded around him.
I promised to get a photo of us clicked together. Who knew which one of us wouldn't last.

In the month that followed, we hunted down the location of 'the ruin', Weiss's prized possession. He had a twisted sense of things.
"Taeen.... I think it'll be best if we take out the enemy in the next ten years...."
I nodded, my mind floating in despair. I wanted to personally talk to Weiss and convince him to leave this pointless farce.
"Taeen? Are you listening to me?"
"Huh?... yeah... I... I'm listening."
Amon put a hand around my waist and I could feel my mood lifting. He whispered softly, "Does my princess not find me interesting anymore?"
He treated me like he did always, like the princess he was asked to protect. I wonder what my brother would have thought of something like this. That his sister had married Amon. He would probably be happy.

"Amon?"
His eyes were hinting a black so I called him by that name. He raised an eyebrow.
"Let us end this war soon, I think I want to live more happily."
I knew my words were sounding lame but that was just what I wanted to say.
He held my hands and examined them in a way that made me want to blush.
"I think that has been very evident from my side, otherwise, why would I be working on something I am destined to handle alone?"

That evening we promised each other and Ru and Trace that no matter what, we were all getting out of this war alive. No matter what.

TEN YEARS LATER:

Angel assisted me in securing my gear as I prepared to leave for Vestavia. Vestavia was declared the battlefield of Jerome. Dior was our camping site.
I thought of Amenatsu, who had hidden himself completely giving way to his powers- the black dragon. Time to put all that practice to test... I thought as I heard the door creak on its primitive hinges when I left it open. The prophecy from long ago which everyone knew well, repeated itself in my heart.

'It hurts and tears at your soul...
And yet the one thing you'd die for...
It's so safe you wonder
If it could actually slip away from your time...'

Trace was in a separate air ship, Ru and Trace were handling the air attacks. Amenatsu and I were taking both the undergrounds and the barren lands.
The battle had begun only because of the confirmation obtained that 'the ruin' was ready.

Weiss had been spotted in the open and had sent an envoy to declare a war with the Jeromian royalty.
"Taeen! We are to stay put until he brings out the ruin, you will get out only and only if I say so."
I looked at him and was about to argue about why he was the one ordering me around when he cut me short with a palm on my head, "My sweetest, I don't want you hurting through this battle, I can handle it myself."
He turned and stalked away to the front of the caterpillar like armored vehicle we were traveling in. I whispered to the walls, "Amon... let me share some of your burden. I... I don't want to live alone, you haven't taught me that!"

There were bumps and jerks as we traveled the burrows through which we could reach Vestavia.
"Amon! What happened?"
"We're breaking the inner walls of their headquarter basement. I think you should join me upstairs."
I pulled out my golden phoenix pearls and sword as we climbed the ladder to the top most level.
Amon said after he too had launched himself out of the hole, "You have lost weight Taeen..."

"That's because you haven't been there to fill me well enough."
We both laughed at that and took our positions. How ironic, to laugh when there were people's dwellings we were about to destroy.
"Shane! Open the hatch! We're ready!"
I directed my sword at the creeping walls along our vehicle and Amon steadied his sword and crescent blade at the opposite wall.
"Taeen... we slice through the supports of the underground structure..."
"The pillars..." I began slicing the pillars but nothing seemed to happen, just then the strange design that kept bothering me came into view.
"Amon! These pillars are fake, the real supports are metal windings up the walls, we must destroy them."

He nodded and we saw with satisfaction and remorse as the structure crumpled helplessly. There was more rubble from the ground that fell into the basement.
"Taeen, back down and hang on to your seat, we're ascending the rubble and reaching ground zero."
I slid down the ladder and waited for Amon, who pushed me on towards the back seats.
I have never had a worse journey, than the one I had when the caterpillar ascended the rubble. It was a never-ending roller coaster to the skies.
A war was on and I was concerned about how nauseas I was feeling when we ascended.
