Forgiving the Forgotten 6
An exiled prince... a new king, and the reason to live...
CHAPTER 6: THE PURPOSE OF EXISTENCE
[AMENATSU'S POV]
The light penetrating my window, and my eyes, was reddish with a yellowish hint. I had to go to the fields. And start thinking of some research.
I was in the bath when I heard knocking at my door. Hurriedly, I wrapped my towel around my lower half and peeked into the corridor. A waiter with a very obvious fake mustache entered my room. And he didn't take my permission.
It was my breakfast, and it was brought in by the only person I knew most well here- Prince Washita.
"What do you want?"
He coughed a bit and said clutching his chest, "Run away... you're perhaps the only farmer to never work in the field...."
I caught him in time, to prevent him from falling on the ground.
"Prince Washita... what is wrong?"
"That... that lady, she saw through me.... I must eliminate her... today. And you've to run away as legally as possible.... The authority letter and the ... locket are... inside the bread. You'll be the next king of Jerome."
I didn't know what to do. I helped him to sit on the bed. His arms were so weak. He coughed even more and tried to stand. I helped him.
"Prince Amenatsu... I have a favor to ask...."
I shook my head, "Anything," as he started disappearing into thin air he told me the words that would become my reason to live.
"Take care of my sister, Ta Jerome. Tell her I loved her.... I'll leave all my powers to you. So leave this planet as fast as you can and the rest will be handled by Ru... he's my best friend."
I nodded. Ta. I had to find her. And I had to get out of here.
By the time I found the authority letter transferring emperor-ship of Jerome from prince Washita to me sitting neatly in between two slices of bread, the prince had disappeared.
I had less than two hours to get out.
Before I left, I packed my things and went to see Aisa.
"Hello sir, what can I do for you?"
My face was showing sweat and I was nervous.
"Uh... I have to leave for Jerome to see a friend whose life is going to end..."
Aisa's tone became all serious as I fumbled, "Sure sir, are you leaving for good?"
"Yes... I'll be relocating to Jerome."
"Very well sir. I'll let your craft out in a few minutes. Kindly prepare your leaving documents."
While I filled in the forms, my luggage was transported into my craft. I was heading towards it and stopped only to say a silent farewell to prince Washita. I hadn't known him much, but I knew there was much more to him than met the eye.
My files were cleared and pretty soon I was steering towards Jerome. My dream paradise. Only the purpose was going to change my very existence.
ONE YEAR LATER:
I paced around the room only to be constantly reminded that the process for finding her was on. I never knew things would become so difficult... I had to find Washita's sister. Somehow.
We were all trying so hard for her....
Ru came over with two cups of coffee and helped me settle in a chair.
"Relax... the men are working on it...."
"We were so close last week and all for a false identity." I was almost willing her to be found.
Oh and I had stopped aging completely. Once you come to Jerome you can't grow beyond a particular age. My time was stopped at twenty two years. Ru was twenty five. And if it was too late finding Ta, she'd die on coming here. Ta... where are you?
"Your highness, I think we've reached the destination...."
My attention was centered on the huge screen which scanned the universe for Ta. We had located her. She was on the planet Yuvers had originally come from. Earth.
I lay sprawled on my bed relaxing in the soft comfort of my bed. I had been made king by authority.
Prince Washita had communicated everything he wanted to his staff. Basically, a king was a mere status symbol and could mingle with everybody else as he wished. But he was very powerful and could punish criminals in the worst possible ways. And this was one peaceful planet.
So I didn't have much work except look after the people of Jerome and hunt for Washita's sister. I had to get her married off to someone nice and then live in paradise for eternity. Only I always wondered what was the little surprise I would get once I found Ta.
I was bound for Earth the next day. Ru, my best friend and second in charge.... would manage things when I was gone.... I found that he was a much better friend than Tora. His intentions were clear and he was a rather clear man, no doubts... no nonsense kind of guy.
No matter what came, I had to find Ta... I wonder how old she was. I wondered if she knew of her brother's death.
The next day came. The servant came in with the morning rack. The robe, a bowl of cool water and of course the daily stack of posts.
I had changed a lot. From hot water to cool, late mornings to early mornings, missing Hebi to finding Ta. I went from loving myself to loving those around me. I went from being a sadist to finding meaning in what I had to live for.
As I strapped on my dress, I looked in the mirror. An image of my mother flashed in my head. No, leave the past. Leave it.
Ignore the past and the power within. Washita had stuffed all his powers in my soul. Of course the dragon was happy. It overloaded me.
It had been a year since I had thought of my family. There were a thousand emotions in me. And I had no one to reveal it to. Not even my best friend... Ru.... Somehow he seemed much less self-centered than Tora. Moreover, he was always considerate. Leave the past, leave the past. My heart ached and my mind used to struggle with me. But I had no one. By the time I shut the door of my craft, with a smile on my face, I realized I was really lonely.
Was it just a pity party or was I really left behind?
