Forgiving the Forgotten - 59 - A Home To Return To

CHAPTER 59: A HOME TO RETURN TO

TAEEN'S POV:

It was a wonderful one month at Tatsu island. The wedding there were so much more elaborate than the ones on Jerome. Ru had informed us that it would be best for us if we returned to Jerome as soon as possible. The rebellions by the Anti- Jeromians were getting stronger.
"Taeen, can you please hurry up with the gifts? We have a planet to go back to...."
"Just a few minutes more, let me get the bills settled."
I was buying souvenirs for all our friends on Jerome. We were returning soon. In a few hours. Tatsu and Zubia were coming to see us off.

It was wonderful, to live in a world where you didn't have to worry for people coming to kill you. But home was home, and our home, in particular needed us urgently.
The threads of luxury cut loose, the feel of a sword back in our hands and the view of the stirrings of a crisis... the events that awaited us on Jerome didn't deter the faithful on Jerome from following the king- Amon.
**
JEROME:
"Your highness! The reports from the security and maintenance have arrived...."
Amon was snapping fingers, asking for all the reports as we headed towards the Lilac palace.
"Ask the Prime representatives to meet me at headquarters. With the details of all the reports from the past one month.... Ru and I will be there in an hour."

"Taeen! Are you god enough to accompany me?"
"Of course! I'll go with you." I closed the distance between us and walked proudly along him.

The next one hour was spent in hurriedly pulling out Amenatsu's coat and shirt from the shelves. I laid the clothes on our bed and grabbed my own set.
The water was rather warm, it soothed my aching muscles. Just the thought of relaxing made me feel guilty. Amon, who was up throughout the journey was working harder than any of us.
I relished in the gentle caress of the water and reluctantly stepped out of the water. Amon must be ready by now. High time I was too.

Amenatsu stood in front of the window, his fingers prancing across the touch screen. I looked at the merciless way he had pulled back his hair. I loosened it and combed through it with a comb.
"Taeen... I will protect Jerome no matter what...."
"What's with the declaration?"
"No... I was wondering... will you keep living if I cease to exist?"
"Depends."
"I see.... Taeen, may I request you to please be by my side till this is all over?"
"I will always be with you...."
Amon turned around and hugged me. it was a sudden and short hug, as if coming from a teenager.

The fact that I could look into his violet black eyes and think of him as my life partner was in itself a huge wonder. His hand cupped my cheek and left it slowly. My skin tingled where he touched me. shutting the screen Amenatsu pulled on his coat and allowed me to plait his hair.
I combed my hair and headed for the headquarters with Amenatsu, where Ru and Trace were waiting for us.

It was time to flood the rat holes and bring out the treacherous mice of Jerome.

"Amon! The following are the details of the anti Jerome front as we have gathered till now. The images shown are those collected from Seharan's home. His family was murdered soon after his death." Ru's eyes showed a subtle change, a streak of emotion, of sadness.
I said voicing my disgust, "Oh... so they kill their supporter's for their own security... how pathetic."
Trace showed no emotion but said, "It depends on their priority... he has shown us a weakness- the fact that he doesn't trust his subordinates or their families. And also that he is desperate... to not be able to look for another alternative to murder."
Trace's thoughts brought light on another aspect- Weiss's mentality... his personality.
Ru nodded approvingly and continued, "Report 1 of Anti Jerome:
Leader of anti Jerome movement is Weiss. Confirmed.
Traitors in Jeromian army. Nanette in charge of elimination of moles within the army. Confirmed.

Residential areas secure. Lilac palace and Emerald palace secure.
Vestavia and Dior show undetectable movement underground. Apparently a research laboratory for the land fertilizers. Suspicion present, not confirmed.
Minor details supplied in the memos in front of you all."
Ru let the papers drop and settled back in his seat. Amenatsu stood up and said, "I believe that we must confirm our doubts. It might be dangerous but we must get the members of the anti Jerome front out in the open. Any suggestions?"
I said voicing my idea, "How about flooding the underground labs of Vestavia and Dior to bring out the traitors in the open?"

Nanette refined my idea quickly, "If we could cause a lack of basic supplies in the underground labs, the people would come out on their own.... as for the residents we can get them dispersed in the other parts of Jerome. Let Vestavia and Dior become the battlefields of this war."
Ru supplied, "But we'll have to do the migration in such a way that the people downstairs would never know. We'll need people living there to wholly co-operate with us. If we can accomplish that...."

Amon stood up and paced behind his seat, "Also, we'll have to replace the migrated members with soldiers to prevent it from looking like anything is actually changing. The underground lab there is pretty deeply seated. And the supplies of that lab are bought from outside Vestavia and Dior to avoid suspicion. So it will be all the more easy to evade the anti Jerome front. I think... we all must think and edit this plan for now. Please do not let any of this go outside this room. Nanette, your men will be informed only when we have a firm plan."
"Understood sir."

Amenatsu looked at me, I could feel the fear the intensity in his gaze which pleaded for me to be ready to live on alone.
I tread into his thoughts last night. He was sleeping peacefully, apparently. Inside his head was in a turmoil. His words left me speechless... emotionless.
'Taeen please take care of Jerome till Dawn comes of age....'
Forget that he asked me to take care of Jerome....
How could he even think of leaving me alone? Leaving me in his stead, could anything be less remindful of the fact that he should be present by my side? Asking me to rule alone, to live alone... to breathe in an atmosphere that did not contain him. It was beyond impossible.
