Forgiving the Forgotten - 57 - The Edge of Anger
CHAPTER 57: THE EDGE OF ANGER:
AMENATSU'S POV:
Taeen was up and about by the time Tatsu finished lamenting about how father had given a subtle response about Zubia.
Tatsu had taken great pains to convince Zubia to visit him at the palace so that he could get approval from the father king. It ended in tears and cries. Zubia's tears and Tatsu's cries.
"I wanted to come over last night but mother said that you had to take care of queen Ta.... I'm sorry for disrupting your life early in the morning."
Taeen laid a tray containing three cups of Sies and said, "Not at all, I was arranging for Sies, good, you too can have a taste of the commonest Jeromian beverage."
"Thank you very much...." his attention returned to me, "Brother... what should I do? Can you please talk to father? Please? Can you talk to father for letting me marry Zubia?"
Taeen said softly, "Tatsu... it's your love, you should handle it yourself... moreover, you were lied to about Amenatsu's exile, if that topic emerges, Amenatsu will lose control over his powers. He still hasn't mastered the balance of emotions and powers."
"I haven't even attained all my powers!"
"You will, once you find your soulmate."
He nodded and sipped from the cup.
"Tatsu... you have to talk to father... I can't do that on your behalf... try to convince him."
"Can you at least accompany when I go to talk to father?"
"I guess I can do that, for moral support...."
Taeen's unsure expression unsettled me. But there was nothing I could do. He was my brother, and I wanted to help him.
I gulped at the thought of witnessing father's anger.
It still scared me. Taeen's hand rested on my shoulders as Tatsu described what all he wanted to tell father....
Sigh.
I had no idea that the little discussion about Tatsu's love life would convert into a full blow battle between father and son.
I watched in dismay as Tatsu failed to make father even interested. I approached them cautiously.
My father turned to me and pointed his finger at me.
"You! You are the one who turned my son against me! It's because of you that he ran away!"
"I never ran away father king. I was banished."
My calm was losing faster than I thought. It hurt to be the victim and give justifications for things I had not done.
"Father! This is not about brother! He was the one who asked me to talk to you instead of behaving recklessly."
We were bickering like kids. If mother was to see us this way, it would break her heart.
"HE went off and married a lowly earth dweller that doesn't mean you can also do that! You're the true king here, born to rule your native...."
I stood there losing control over my power. Insult me, I can take it, but insult the people who sheltered me and I will not stay quiet.
"What are you glaring at? The truth hurts... oh yes it does, doesn't it?"
"Father... you shouldn't be talking like that to him... it's not Amenatsu, it's..."
I heard myself speak, "Amon, yes... the unlucky black dragon who was exiled.... why anyone would tell my brother that I ran away is anyone's guess. Why would you slander the people who treat me as their own? I may not be born there... but it's still the place I would happily die for. Father or should I call you 'your highness', Tatsu can be an excellent king. Let him rule, let him be the king... why do you overshadow him? Why do you think he would be happy with a girl who is not his beloved? Why don't you just let him be?"
My father stepped back. Tatsu was unsure of what to do.
"Do I scare you Tatsu? Probably so. Please understand that I must... control... control...."
I suppressed the anger in me and the amplified waves of anger that caused me to talk so.
"Forgive me, I have said things I didn't mean to say."
I bowed before both of them and left the palace. Had it been graceful enough, I would have run away.
Taeen met me in the outer gardens and once we were in the carriage she pulled me close and whispered in my ear, "Enough.... you've helped Tatsu enough... let him do the rest on his own. It's alright sweetheart. You've done nothing wrong. Everything's alright.... you can talk to him again tomorrow..."
I clung to Taeen's overcoat. She was patting my back, like the mother of a scared child....
"Taeen, we'll leave Tatsu island as fast as possible. I don't want to fuel father's anger anymore. It would be best for us to leave...."
Taeen's emotion filled voice drove me back with indecision, "Mother was telling she'd like to come over to our place again today evening. I invited her for Sies.... maybe you should talk to her."
"You... you should also abandon me Taeen... what am I to you? Nothing but an alien come to capture your land..."
The anger in me, the hatred I felt for my father's words slipped through my tongue and I unknowingly spewed anger over my gentle flower.
Her hands stopped for a moment but then continued stroking my hair, "Amenatsu... you're on the edge of anger, even though the thought of getting upset with you and feeling pity for myself is rather appealing, I will not push you. I love you. In whichever mood you are, whatever you feel about the world, I love you and nothing will change that. Also, since I'm your wife, I will not leave you. No frigging way. So stop worrying, you're a king Amenatsu... why do you cry so much?"
"I wasn't crying, I just wanted you to hold me for a while...."
"Yeah right! Like I'd believe you.... show me your cry baby face now!"
I hugged her tighter, not allowing her to separate us, "No. Let me stay a longer while. Please Taeen."
She answered by patting me again.
"You're behaving like a kid today, throwing tantrums and feeling insecure about things you should be most secure about."
"I'm not throwing a tantrum!"
"See... there you go again!"
"You're wrong Taeen..."
"No I'm not, Amon... come on, Royal Dragon's here."
I wondered how many days I had left to stay here... could be three days to three weeks. I didn't even know what I wanted among the two either....
Sigh.
