Forgiving the Forgotten - 53 - Possibilities of Reconciliation
CHAPTER 53: POSSIBILITIES OF RECONCILIATION:
AMENATSU'S POV:
Taeen glanced at my mother anxiously, she too was afraid of their reaction though she was concealing it well.
"Why would that be? Because you're born of this land?" my father asked with a snort.
"Not really... I'm the very lucky black dragon."
The shock on the faces of the three royals was evident.
Taeen piped up, "Please... do not be angry regarding his stance. It was I who forced him to come here."
The queen mother, my mother enveloped me in an embrace so hard I thought she could never let go.
She stroked my back, hair and all.
"I... I just knew it, you were alive. I knew you were better off than I thought. I'm happy you're alive. And I'm happy for your lovely wife as well." She went on to embrace Taeen. Taeen's eyes shone with tears as she hugged her back.
My father lowered his gaze and stared at the embroidery on the table cloth. He knew Jerome was way stronger than the islands combined. He also knew I was king of a planet hundred times stronger than Tatsu island.
"I'm sorry. I hadn't attempted contact in the past few years. Since I was forbidden to do so."
Taeen's hand clutched mine tightly, giving me the strength to go on.
My brother asked politely, "What brings you here... brother?"
My words were held in my throat. He called me brother.
Tears stung my eyes but I controlled myself and said after a pause, "I had to give part of my life source to my son, who had come from the future, but as of now, I'm falling short of life force to contain my powers. The powers of Jerome are well held, my island powers are at stake."
"Your son? You have a son? Short of life force?"
Life force only fell short, when you had obscene amounts of power... so much that it affected your body; and power and soul mingled.... complicated stuff.
Tatsu's eyes rounded in confusion and I went on to explain, "A crisis on Jerome awaits us in a period of the next thirteen years. It all started with the apparent murder of our one month old son. Some time ago, a young boy named Dawn became a trusted member of our staff and army. He had come to warn us of impending danger from the future."
"Future? Time alteration?"
"Since both Taeen and I can alter time, he too could. Dawn is our son; we are separated by a gap of sixteen years. I must live on to reach his location and send him back sixteen years.... it's a long and convoluted story."
"YOU... you can alter time and space?"
The surprise in my brother's voice was evident.
"Yes, very well, as can my wife."
My mother smiled kindly on Taeen. Taeen bowed her head, not knowing how else to react.
"At a point of time, when both Taeen and I were under high risk of murder, Dawn tried to sacrifice his own life to save us. To save his life... I passed on the remaining part of my life source to Dawn. But my body cannot contain my powers. I made my Jeromian powers primary and island powers secondary. So I'm at risk of losing my island powers. We have come here to request you to allow us to go to the abandoned glacier of shadows and acquire and seal my life source from there. Would it be possible?"
Taeen said as soon as I finished, "Please your highnesses."
My father said his eyes scorching me, "Why did you make your islander powers secondary?"
"Father... I mean your highness, I have a duty towards the people of Jerome. Their safety is more important to me. If at any time my Jeromian powers are lost, I will lose the personal telepathy that I have with every single Jeromian. And I will break the promise I made with Prince Washita, to protect his sister."
"Still... have you no shame in abandoning your native powers? The powers belonging to your home?"
I looked down and said softly, "Jerome is my home now.... It is the only place I have to call home. I was told that I was never to consider Tatsu as my home."
My mother sobbed softly and Taeen patted her hand.
"Why would you? You were never supposed to be born in the first place!"
Taeen looked at my father teary eyed and said, "Sir, I forced him to come here, your anger should be directed in my direction, please do not accuse him of a crime he has not done. I don't believe you need to accuse a man who himself is guilty of being born, with a crime as one that you state!"
My father sobered up and said with regret, "Forgive me Queen Ta.... I do not mean to earn your wrath. Your power would consume the islands alive."
"Your son's powers could consume the universe in a matter of three minutes... his powers are more fearsome."
She huffed and sat back. I turned all my attentions to her.
'Taeen... don't strain yourself.... I'll handle here!'
She replied sweetly in my mind, 'Don't worry silly. I'm with you. Your father is still angry with himself for abandoning you that's all. He just needs to see the truth.'
My brother said politely, "Brother, you can make use of any facility you desire to visit the glacier of shadows. It is not visited by the people here..."
I looked at Tatsu, and said with gratefulness, "You have no idea how much it means. Thank you. And don't worry; my pilots will take us there."
Taeen said softly and with a childish smile, "Please forgive me father king, I was upset about both father and son not being able to clear things.... I have the misfortune of understanding the deepest emotions in a person. So I know how you both feel. It's a pity you both haven't reconciled as yet. It's a simple matter of time."
My father's face showed emotion but he just smiled sadly, "I'm rather hard headed.... You have a talented wife there Amenatsu.... maybe... over the days we might reconcile to better terms. Go ahead use the glacier... it's been abandoned for so long."
My brother stared at me as I helped Taeen to her feet and placed a hand at her back. We stood up to leave.
My mother said to me, her eyes pushing me to the edge of tears, "Can we talk again... aren't you staying at the Royal Dragon?"
I nodded and clutched Taeen's hand which had moved into my hand for support.
"Come over for dinner brother... I will ask mother to prepare my favorite."
I wondered where all this brotherly love was coming from. He seemed like my little brother. My mother was nodding in positivity for dinner.
"Alright, we'll be here for dinner...."
"I will arrive early, to help the mother queen."
Taeen's statement finalized the program.
I waited for approval from my father. He said nothing. It hurt. It hurt so much. Why?
It always had to be me.... I was to be abandoned. I was orphaned. And I lost everything. I was a beggar from birth. If it wasn't for prince Washita I would have been working somewhere alone... cold... lost... lost....
I was losing myself again... childish fears pressing me into the closing darkness. The days I wallowed in self pity. The way I had tried to let go of the joys of self pitying. The pain of pretending to be fine. The pain of losing your first child. The loss. The pain of losing my darling Taeen on Earth... jumbled memories making no sense....
The cold and the sense of loss returned to keep me company. Had they always been my companions? Maybe happiness, I didn't have for keeps blinded it temporarily. Maybe...
