Forgiving the Forgotten - 51 - The Place I Was Born
CHAPTER 51: TO THE PLACE I WAS BORN:
AMENATSU'S POV:
I wouldn't be seeing Jerome for one whole month... that was far less compared to the time I spent on earth with Taeen. Ru and Mia waved to us as our craft left Jerome. It was always Ru who waved me farewell at all times if I ever left Jerome for any work. I recalled the day I was exiled. No one had come to see me off. My own petty anger amused me. Taeen sat by my side during the atmosphere breach.
She had carefully packed our dresses for arrival on Tatsu separately. And I had erected a barrier around her that would not allow average powered or rather people with average minds to see her powers.
Shane was once again our pilot; the only difference was that this was a private trip. We were going as the king and queen of Jerome on a friendly visit to Tatsu planet. In terms of the universe, such visits were insignificant and did not matter much.
Once Shane retired from the cockpit, Gird took the piloting. Since Shane was much closer to me than any other officer in the army, he knew the internal matter. Our agenda of going to the glaciers.
"Your highnesses, I believe we'll be reaching early tomorrow morning...."
"Shane... you've always done an excellent job of helping me out in tight situations... I don't know how to thank you."
"Your highness! It is my utmost honor to be of service to you and the queen. I just know I was born to die for Jerome."
I nodded and asked him to retire for the night. Before the launch I had told my staff of two pilots that they might get mistreated on Tatsu but were to maintain their calm and dignity as Jeromians. I had apologized in advance. They in turn had given me their word that none of it would leave their lips.
Later that night, I heard Taeen praying in a corner of the room to the nature of Jerome for a happy and safe trip. That our purpose be fulfilled.
"Amenatsu? Are you not feeling well?"
I pretended to not have the killer headache that was almost stifling me to death.
"Um... no... I'm fine... I feel as if I'm walking through fathoms of sludge..."
She came to my side and dragged me to the bed. Why was I so weak? I hadn't wanted to depend on her so much. To see her worried face made me want to smile in spite of everything. I would have smiled in the worst pain I bore just to see her smile. Hopefully, I would regain my strength once I touched the glacier.
The moment I sat on the bed, my head started swaying like the past few days and I allowed myself to fall back on the pillows.
Taeen sat by my side and opened her palms for me to see my medicines. Ah... my survival drugs.
I heaved a sigh and popped them all at once. Taeen placed an arm across my abdomen and lay her head on top of it. "Why did you fall in love with me, king?"
"Because I was taking care of you... and in the process realized that if there was one person I would have you protect, it was me.... and my..." the sudden swirling of liquid pain inside my head had me going mad in the darkness. I tried to call out to Taeen but I failed.
"...Amon... Amenatsu?"
Was my eyesight weakening or were there really two Taeens?
The pain had gone. But it was almost morning by the time I woke up. Taeen's eyes were red and puffy with tears. The dark circles under her eyes and her evening clothes from yesterday were proof that she hadn't slept a wink last night. My poor wife. What sort of a husband am I?
"Taeen?" I asked croakily as she hugged me tightly.
"I'm so glad you're alright... don't you ever dare to leave me this way again... I don't have anyone else Amenatsu... or don't you realize that yet?"
Her muffled voice and her body sobbing with tears hurt me. She must be suffering so much.
I placed a hand on her bare arm and was surprised to find that it was rather warm... did she have a fever?
"Taeen... you are unwell aren't you?"
"I'm fine... you felt the warmth from my skin because I couldn't sleep very well last night...."
'Liar', I said in her head.
'Get well fast and allow me to be taken care of by you Amenatsu... please don't leave me again.'
I heard the pain and the longing in her voice.
I patted her head and chugged down another round of medicines so that I could function well till evening.
"Why don't you relax for a few hours before we reach?"
"If I sleep now, I won't be up for at least six hours... don't worry I am fine.... let's first reach our room at the Royal Dragon.... have you been there?"
"No... it has come up in the recent past, a wonderful means of extracting money from royals all over the universe...."
She smiled and shook her head.
"You still resent them Amon?"
"In a childish sort of way... but if it hadn't been for them I wouldn't have met you my dear."
Taeen kissed my forehead and left a trail of fire along my cheek where her fingers grazed my face. How much I loved her....
An hour later I stood in the reception of the Royal Dragon, on Tatsu soil, after (I prefer not to remember the number) many years. My beloved wife, the princess of Jerome and perhaps the most powerful female Yuver in the universe stood next to me.
The staff welcomed us and ushered us to our rooms. Shane and Gird had their own rooms opposite ours as our body guards. Taeen and I had a suite to ourselves. It was rather luxurious.
Taeen, tired to the bone and sustaining her consciousness with her powers was nervous as a fawn. I cradled her frame in my arms and rocked her to sleep. Since I was structurally larger than her, it was easy to do that. And she loved it. She said it put her to sleep in seconds. Indeed she was asleep when I laid her on the comfortable bed.
That evening we were supposed to meet the king of this planet. Tatsu. My twin brother.
