Forgiving the Forgotten 5
The beauty of royalty....
CHAPTER 5: SECRETS OF A DYING PRINCE
[AMENATSU'S POV]
I didn't want to die. I had to have my sword on me.
Images of the prince flocked my mind. My hunger was all gone. And I concentrated on my inner self.
A black dragon. Standing on a glacier.
That was the source of my power. A black dragon was a royal trait seen in twins. That's precisely what made me unlucky, as a twin. But it had been rather useful. Lucky or not.
When I reached the garden I had tears in my eyes. It hurt to use that power. It exhausted me to say the least. And gave me a lot of despair. I still had to tame that dragon. I walked calmly to my room and unlocked it. Nothing was out of place still I felt as if someone had been there.
I took my file reader and a few files of Emperia and dragged myself to the terrace. It was still not night but I felt sure no one would be out at that time on the terrace. I lay on my stomach and adjusted the screen to my comfort.
The file reader opened up and I inserted the Emperia files into it. A screen floated up and I could see past the translucent screen and towards the entry of the terrace.
I was nervous, so much that my hands felt clammy. Shrugging, I began reading the history of Emperia.
'History of Emperia- the wine house'
I didn't pay much attention to the adjectives that described the place, paying attention only to the things I thought would be needed to stay here.
'Emperia is the only producer of the Emperial wines which are further propagated into the world under different names....'
'Corrupt members of Emperia were punished by being sent as food for the cannibalistic species of Wuldock. Though the instances of corruption have vanished, the laws against are still in force.'
What caught my attention almost shockingly was the last chapter which had been deemed insignificant by the database-
'Emperia is a planet not subject to rulers unlike its neighboring planets... three standard years ago, the first scientist and also the one who improved the living quality of all those dwelling on this planet- Washita Jerome, was named royalty by the people unanimously. He is currently the person in charge of dealing with newcomers. His advisor, Lady Jerome, is not directly involved and is rarely seen among people. For more details on Emperia, kindly refer to the third volume of ....'
I had no intention of stopping my research about the prince. But for the rustling of cloth behind me.
"Am I so interesting prince Amenatsu?"
This guy had a knack for shocking me.
"Not really Prince Washita Jerome. How come no one knows you're from Jerome?"
The prince settled down in front of me and flicked off the file reader. Oh... so he knew how to use it. Great.
"Jerome is a pretty common surname you know... you could use it too... you know. Considering you haven't thought of a surname for yourself...."
I just stared at him. It was irritating to have his tentacle like mind invading my mind. It pissed me to not be able to do that.
I looked him straight in the eye and requested, barely trying to control the annoyance in my voice, "Prince Washita, kindly stop poking my mind, I'm not used to this kind of... activity."
He chuckled and withdrew his mind from mine slowly. It was a relief to have him do that. To know I could think freely again.
"Why would a prince from the islands be working as a farmer here? I wonder... will you answer me or shall I take the answer myself?"
I gritted my teeth and threw back, "Don't make yourself an enemy, you're clairvoyance is your strength only till I don't manipulate it to make it your weakness.... After all its my head, and I'm very much in control of it."
"Yeah!... it's your heart that's untamed isn't it?"
I hung my head in embarrassment.
The prince chuckled again and relaxed into a more comfortable position, "You know, I'd be as strong as you too had I been sent to training camps as well. I too could control my mind. Why did you learn the technique of mind occlusion?"
I sighed, this guy was not giving up, what had I to lose from the prince of the most peaceful planet? So I answered him after a while, "As an individual with the unluck of not having born with a pre determined fate, I was trained for various things like keeping secrets safe even from clairvoyants. That's where I learned mind occlusion. Answer me, if you please, why did you choose to visit a commoner, a security risk, a newcomer so late in the night?"
The prince sat straight and whispered softly, "I'm not who you think you are...."
"What...."
He made a serious face and said, "I'm not homosexual. I don't plan on making you my partner.... Keep such thoughts to yourself."
I was flustered and embarrassed. I sat on my knees and said, "Hey, what part of do- not- read- my- mind do you not understand?"
The prince rolled back and started laughing. I literally had to shut his mouth. He was still shaking when he said with a wink, "If my advisor was to see me now, she would say I have a fetish for handsome things."
I shoved him forwards playfully. For the first time since arriving here, I was actually having some fun.
"Hey, you alright?"
I asked him. He seemed uncomfortable.
He gasped a bit and said, "Nothing... at all."
After some time, when we were both quiet, he said again, "If I ask you to not trust that elegant lady with me, will you not trust her?"
I smirked and said, "Why? She not the trustworthy type?"
He shook his head and stared softly at the stars. There was a mellowness in his eyes, "That elegant lady happens to be my step mother, and she brought me here."
I raised an eyebrow asked, "Why is that?"
He stood up and said, "I've spoken enough tonight. Just remember, I don't want an enemy in you."
"Prince Washita... wait..."
"That lady will suspect if she doesn't hear me pacing in my room. I must leave. And I promise I'll visit you again. Don't let any of this escape your mouth. And I'll keep your identity a secret. Deal?"
"Deal!"
