Forgiving the Forgotten - 49 - The Departed Prince
CHAPTER 49: THE DEPARTED PRINCE:
TAEEN'S POV:
It had been quite some time since Dawn had revealed all the details of Jerome being in danger to us. And now, it was time for him to return.
I held Dawn's face in my hands as tears threatened their way down.
"I just wish I could have seen your childhood... that fate will not let us meet is cruel, the fact that you're returning of your own will is crueler...."
Dawn hugged me gently as he began taking his leave. Amon had already done all the talking he needed to do. The war was up to us now. Hayame stood behind a pillar watching tearfully.
"If I may..." Dawn asked as he deviated from the path to the aircraft and went towards her. She hugged him tightly as he lifted her off the ground. She was older to him... and yet at the moment he seemed so much more mature. I tried forgetting their long kiss. I hadn't kissed Amenatsu so lovingly from quite some time.
"Father! I'll see you some years later then...."
Amon nodded and waved. Dawn lifted the door of the craft and sat inside comfortably. Putting on his safety gear and switching on the pilot system, he seemed so young.
Amon put an arm around me and said soothingly, "It's alright. We'll get him back. Somehow."
Miraculously, after such a long time, Amenatsu was finally feeling spirited. We all waved as Dawn's craft lifted into space and left Jerome.
"Taeen... shall we go back?"
I nodded and clung to him. I was still too little to know or understand the emotions of a mother.
We reached Lilac palace which smelled of new paint and fresh soil. The staff were inside preparing dinner. Our garden which was still on its way to transformation to inverse sky shimmered in the evening glow like a bride.
"Amenatsu... shall I kiss you under the first evening star?"
I was impulsive but I said it. He lowered his head and we kissed under the first star. I feared that our time was nearing an end. Why was I so insecure?
'Love me please... I am lonely today....'
I heard his thoughts as our foreheads met gently.
'Shall I make dinner for you today? The staff has not started the main course yet."
"I'll help too.... I don't want your hands being soiled alone."
We walked arm in arm towards our palace. The happiness I had in being his wife was mine to taste. I wanted to cherish it while I could.
A few years ago I was this girl who had no idea of love and today I was walking with my husband, the king of my homeland and my heart.
"Taeen... can you pass me the water?"
I turned to face Amenatsu, his eyes were troubled.
Worried, I placed my hand on his palm and snuggled closer, "Are you alright Amenatsu...?"
"I... I'm fine... I think. I couldn't breathe so I woke up.... sorry, I woke you also."
"You're still not healed are you?"
He shook his head in denial as I held the glass of water to his lips. I placed the glass back and turned to look at him. He clutched his chest tight.
"Does it hurt?" I kissed him lightly.
"No... I'll wake you up in the morning... sleep my dearest."
No kiss.
I turned towards him and tried falling asleep.
A few moments later I opened my eyes to see Amon shivering in spite of the heavy blanket.
"Amon... what's wrong?"
His coarse voice was enough to frighten me, "Stay away!"
I tried placing my hand and try to make him turn towards me.
His hand pushed me away roughly, "Didn't you hear me? Stay away from me."
I looked away and whispered, "I... I cannot leave you alone...."
I could hear him wheezing by now.
"Amon... please don't push me away."
Was this the distance I was afraid of?
"Amon?"
His breathing became short puffs of air and then shallow and slow. I could feel his trembling body beneath the blanket. It scared me....
I threw over the blanket and ran to the other side.
His lips were becoming pale. I held him by the arm and shook him roughly. The expression on his face tensed and his breathing became vey labored. He was dying for each gasp of air.
"Amon?" I swallowed hard and shook him again, perspiration evident over my brows.
"Amon?"
I grabbed the transmitter and dialed the code to Mia's number.
'Come on... answer me please.'
My hand desperately stroked Amon's forehead as his face lost expression and his chest under the blanket heaved and fell in quick short puffs. Amon.... no... you are not allowed to leave me....
"Mia here!"
"Mia... Ta! Amon, he is not breathing!"
"What? Ta... calm down. Just relax..."
"How do you think I can?"
"Yeah alright. I'm sending Trace and Hayame there. Get him to my lab, it has something to do with his island powers!"
I had too many questions in mind. They could wait. Island powers?
"Don't send them. I'll teleport there."
"How will you?"
"I can do it... Amon taught me how... I'll be there. Please help me Mia, please."
"I will. Just come down here."
"Yeah."
I tied on my robe and pulled one around Amon's muscular frame. Holding his hand I focused on the golden phoenix. In a blush of gold I saw the space around us moving, ethereal and cool.
Before long I was standing in Mia's dimly lit lab.
Two minutes later Ru and Mia both came running in with their night robes on. Mia slipped on her coat and began untying Amon's robe.
I helped her and asked in the process, "What did you mean by island powers?"
"I have been keeping track of his powers ever since he gave part of his life source to Dawn. It keeps on leaking if you don't seal it off completely. Remember he collapsed right after the transfer? He didn't, or rather couldn't completely seal it off in his body."
"So... now the amount of power he has is too much for his body?"
"Not because of his Jeromian powers, he chose to keep that as the primary source and allow the island powers as secondary.... because his soul is tied to a Jeromian that is you."
The grasp I had on his hand tightened. His breathing had become functional as displayed by the screen to which a few leads Mia had connected. But the color of his lips still looked leeched.
"His life force is not enough for his Island powers...."
"What shall we do?"
"The stress he's under is troublesome. I'll give you some tablets for distress and temporarily expanding the life force. It is temporary, and does not come without side effects. See to it that he takes it all regularly. And the final solution to this is going to the glacier his dragon was born and regaining the unlimited life force from there."
"You mean he will have to go to the Islands?"
"No... you will have to go with him, his soul is tied to yours."
"Of course...."
Mia patted my back while Ru whispered soothing words to Amon, who I was sure was not listening to anything.
I thanked both of them and promised to tell them as soon as was decided our future course of action.
The islands huh? Planet Tatsu?
