Forgiving the Forgotten - 47 - The Prince of Jerome II
CHAPTER 47: THE PRINCE OF JEROME 2
[CHILDHOOD]
TAEEN'S POV:
Mia held the warm cup in her hands and chose to use sies, the beverage for warming her hands than drinking it up. I poured myself another cup of the rather tasteless brew.
Dawn took a deep breath and began his story, from the time he remembered.
"I don't know my actual name, my caretaker back at Aria- William, named me Dawn."
Amenatsu said softly, "We lost you too early to name you, Dawn."
He nodded and continued, "As of what I was told, I was brought up by a retired soldier named William. He won me from one of the battles on Wuldock."
Someone had sold a baby to Wuldock! a baby! My baby!
Dawn had been so close! So close. I knew there were tears in my eyes.
"William brought me up like one of the many boys he had adopted. We were seven in number, three girls and four boys. Brothers and sisters." Dawn looked down and continued again regaining his composure.
"Aria is a mining planet, it has all sorts of stones. The people there have only two jobs- mining and military. The mining is for Aria and military for Rows. Rows is the planet that owns Aria. I, unlike my brothers and sisters, took up military. They were all into mining. William was against me going into military but he relented at last. I was twelve when I joined the military. It was all fine till the king of Rows expired. The new king, is appallingly pathetic. He took a batch of girls from Aria saying that they were going to be treated like princesses on Rows. And then he took little babies and young men too."
I noticed Dawn's fists balled into fists as he continued with aggression.
"One of my sisters and three of my friends from around the neighborhood were taken. William hid my two younger sisters as did everyone. All had hidden their daughters from Rows eyes. Those who were discovered were taken.
We were a group of fifteen boys aged from 12 to 25. We escaped one night with a space craft from the military academy campus and gathered another ten boys from the mining areas and headed for Rows.
It was common for Aria guys to go to Rows on errands. Disguised as erranders- errand boys from Aria, we mingled with the crowd on Rows and over a period of two months discovered that the girls from Aria the babies and men were sold to Wuldock for money.
Enraged the twenty five of us rushed to Wuldock. There we lost seven members of our group and some of the prisoners from Aria. We got back many of the people from Aria, some by winning battle, others by buying them off from the winners. But we couldn't get them all.
The ones we saved were left in the care of Emperia. The seven we lost to the duels and battles were mourned. We gathered as many from Wuldock as possible and escaped to Emperia. From Emperia the people were slowly transported to Aria.
The eight of us who were still left alive returned to Wuldock one last time for the last batch of people.
There, in one of the battle boxes I frequented, I struck a conversation with a man named Hirth. He joined us on our crusade for saving those sold to Wuldock. He was a valuable member and I saved him from being caught by Wuldock officials. So he became a trusted friend."
Dawn turned to Ru and said, "Remember the man who handed you the scrolls? He was Hirth."
Ru nodded in understanding. Dawn took a deep breath and went on, "Hirth told me about how a grand lord was going to come and buy Aria from Rows. I had heard rumors about Aria being resold again. That was good news. But Hirth also added that the lord would become king of Aria. And the cost of making Aria independent was the lives of all those alive on Jerome. The lord was going to use the powers of the dead on Jerome to power a machine called 'the ruin'.
This machine could destroy a planet in a fraction of seconds.... I relayed this information to the others from my group. They accepted that though independence was a sweet fruit, it was tainted in blood if we would get it by killing thousands of people on a planet called Jerome.
So we went back to Aria and tried to talk sense into the people to stop this unwanted killing. We couldn't be free if a lord like that was ruling over us.
Come on! He wasn't even nice. The lord was a psychopath who wanted to go trotting with his huge machine, threatening every planet, not thinking of the people. A planet has many people. Those are lives, each with their own story and joys and worries. How can anyone destroy lives? It is not the law of the universe, the balance of the universe would be disturbed if this machine could be ready.
The people on Aria were too scared of Rows to think that the lord could be scarier. So we lost in the talks. Hirth told me that he would find out the details of Jerome, if Jerome was ready to fend for itself. And then we would decide what to do thereon. When I asked him why he was helping me, he said he was looking for the prince of Jerome. That he had lost the prince to a soldier long back on Wuldock. He had finally located the prince on Aria but did not know who he was. I promised him that I would help him look for the prince. In return he would help me tell the king of Jerome that his planet was in danger.
We traveled back and forth through time to locate Weiss. I have lost record of how many times I went though time.
Using my growing powers I found a silver dragon and a golden phoenix in me. They were the source of my powers. I took Hirth with me through time. We found a lot of evidence in that period.
In the end, it was just me and Hirth left. The others, with pressure from their families went back to mining, but never to military.
We also had to find out the details of this lord- the person who was going to buy Aria. Hirth informed me that Jerome was too peace loving to even think of war. But the king could be warned. He also suggested that we find the lord fast, he suspected a traitor on Jerome.
We found that the person we were looking for was someone called Weiss. On digging further we gathered he was the assistant commander of the Jeromian army. He was the traitor. His reasons were unknown. The location of the machine or how he would buy Aria was all unknown. We began keeping track of Weiss and followed him into the battle boxes.
In one of the time travels, Hirth struck a talk with him and got him drunk enough to spill his guts out.
In the drunken state Weiss let out that he had nothing to with Aria... just that he would profit from the mines. His main aim was to blow up Jerome because the second in command had replaced him, taken away his position. And the prince, prince Washita, had discovered his black income from the states of Dior and Vestavia. Also, Weiss said that his mother was much into killing the prince and taking the throne for herself and her son, for Weiss. But prince Washita ended his life with his step mother's. And that was reason enough for Weiss to want to kill the new king, his wife and of course the second in command.
Coming to his senses, Weiss tried to get Hirth killed, but Hirth and I escaped from his men.
Weiss was now hot on our trails. Moreover, he knew he had been discovered. So he planned to hasten with the massacre of all people Jeromian.
