Forgiving the Forgotten - 45 - The Truth
CHAPTER 45: THE TRUTH
TAEEN'S POV:
It was late in the night. Both Dawn and Amenatsu were in the sanatorium. Hayame was in charge for both of them. She kept her nurses on their toes.
There was a soft knock on the door. I turned to see Mia enter.
I motioned for her to sit next to me on the sofa.
"Did you take your medicines Ta?"
I shook my head.
"Amon will be fine. I don't know about Dawn... he protected me and Amon.... but look at him now...." Tears gathered in my eyes.
Mia placed a hand on my back and patted me in a motherly way. It had become so familiar. She was my elder sister at times, my mother at others, a friend sometimes and a doctor at other times.
"Dawn will live... because Amon gave him part of his life source.... Hayame asked... she asked me to thank you and Amon on her behalf for saving his life." Mia said emotionally.
I smiled and said, "I think I understand. I should be thanking her for taking care of both of them...."
Mia nodded. We sat there through the night.
Dawn was weaker than ever. Amenatsu was the same. He should have done his meditation stuff... now he must be apologizing to his black dragon for ignoring him for so long.
I took a walk to check on Dawn.
Hayame, after finishing her duty for the evening had changed into casuals and sat by Dawn's bed all through the night.
I stole a glance into the room. Dawn's hand clutched Hayame's tightly. Maybe he was having a nightmare... why did my heart fear his death so much? Why did I want to stop his tears?
He was the bravest person I had seen. As brave as Amenatsu... only Amenatsu could control his emotions and anger in any situation, Dawn could use his anger to become even more powerful.
Hayame, who was crying as well, dabbed away her tears. She whispered soothing words for him, to calm him.
I knocked and she quickly blinked away her tears.
"Hayame... would you mind if I sat here too?"
She shook her head and was about to stand up and offer her seat.
"No... I'll sit this side. Sit... sit...."
I pulled a chair noiselessly and sat opposite Hayame. She pursed her lips and silently cried. It hurt to see her cry.
She was doing her best to help him.
"Princess!"
Hayame and some of those close to me called me princess, even after I became Queen. I didn't mind.
When I was about to get up, she stopped me and without looking at me she said, "I'm so sorry princess.... If I had the power to, I would give up my life to keep him alive."
I nodded. Why was she telling me this?
"I would have done the same if I were in your place."
"No... he asked me to ask you and the King to open the box... the gift for your wedding. It's high time you knew the truth."
Truth?
"What truth?"
"...You must find it out yourself, or wait for Dawn to tell it himself."
**
I left the hospital in a hurry and searched through the ruins of my palace to look for the box... the gift Dawn had given on my wedding.
The palace was in ruins. Rimini and Rica were in a tent outside the ruins. When I arrived I saw the two of them running towards me.
"Princess! How is the king? And are you injured?"
I shook my head and hugged the two girls.
There were much more trials and tribulations awaiting us. And for now, I had my work cut out for me.
"Will you girls help me look for a photo frame that was kept on the night stand near my bed?"
"We saved some of the things from your room and the little baby's room."
Ah!... my unnamed and dead baby's things. I had cleared out that room....
Inside the tent I found some photo frames and the royal seal.
God! These girls were intelligent.
There was one photo of my baby. The only one.
Then there were some of us. Amenatsu and me.
I remembered that Amenatsu had hung the locket with that box on one of the photo frames.
I scanned the articles the girls had saved and lying in a corner, under a heap of broken glass pieces, sat the little box, its chain intact.
I cleared away the glass and held the locket in my palm.
I had to find out what Dawn wanted us to know.
The lock on the box was open, I slid open the cover and out fell a stone.... The same as the one that hung around mine or Amenatsu's neck. It was a royal asset given only to Royalty....
I stroked the shiny surface and was immediately thrown into an apparition... oh... so it was a vision stone.
I allowed the darkness to surround me. I had experienced the wonders of a vision stone before.
"I'm sending you 16 years back, Dawn..." the voice was Amon's.
"Will I find you here when I return?" that was Dawn.
"I'm stopping time on Aria.... the moment you enter the atmosphere of Aria again, time will continue. The difference will be approximately five to ten minutes. I will be inside the lab, the basement...." Placing a hand on Dawn's shoulder, Amon continued, "By the time the spell freezes the fabric of time, you'll be out of the atmosphere and will probably reach the day your mother reached Jerome. You must turn back time on your way there and then forward it again when you return."
Dawn nodded and Amon nodded. They hugged and Dawn headed for the spacecraft that would crash into Jerome.
Amon rushed after him and handed him a broken fragment of the Jerome stone from his locket.
Dawn accepted it as he put on his helmet and swung into his seat.
I saw Amon's back as the vision began diminishing.
The last words I heard when the apparition had faded completely were Dawn's, "See you in a while... father...."
