CHAPTER 43: MEMORIES OF LOSS:
TAEEN’S POV:
"Taeen… I am leaving for the lab. Would you like to come?" Amenatsu’s toneless voice rang in my ears.
I gutted down two tablets and reached for his shoulder. He looked at me his eyes held despair, a helplessness….
"Amenatsu, can we go to our little paradise tonight?"
He glanced at the folders in his hand and shook his head slowly.
"I understand… please tell me when we can go there, I’d really…"
"Alright, whatever you wish."
He turned and started for the door. It hurt so much when he flared up that way.
My emotions slipped out of control as the water glass exploded and I ran behind him.
"Amon!"
Before I knew it, my arms were holding him tight. I hugged with an intensity he had once known. The scent of his hair surrounded me. I pulled out the band that kept his hair braided.
"Can we walk to the lab together… please."
He stood still as I loosened the entangled hair and allowed it to flow down.
"Taeen, I’m… I’m sorry, my failure as a father, as a king… as the dragon… I…"
"Hush… you know I don’t need the lies. It is all lies my sweetest. We lost our son to fate. Accept it. As I have…."
"But how will I explain it to the people… to myself? The death of a prince… our baby…. Taeen… I would commit any sin to kill the one who took our son from us, any crime. Anything. I would do anything at all!"
"Amon! We’ll find the culprit… Ru and Mia will help us… Mia said I can be a mother again. Someday. I will find the murderer. And I will kill him."
Amenatsu’s arms came around me as we stood hugging each other in the dining hall of Lilac palace.
I cried with my head burrowed in his shoulder. His hand stroked my back. It had been far too long since I had felt his strength.
"Let’s go there today evening… to our paradise… it’s been so long since we went there… it’ll be a happy evening…."
I sighed, "Happiness in times of sorrow is a gift of rarity…. Let’s go to the lab. And don’t be so angry on me early in the morning."
"Ahem…." Dawn’s youthful presence made us aware that we were standing in the doorway.
"Your highnesses I have arranged for your transport to the lab. There has been some problem with the security. For my satisfaction, I would like you both to get under the security of the lab while I screen the palace for breaches."
Dawn bowed and showed us to the car.
"Dawn!... we were planning a family dinner soon… join us…." Amon said as the engine revved.
"Uh… yeah sure…."
I teased him with a smile, "How is your doctor?"
"Yeah… Hayame’s doing fine…. Busy as usual."
I waved and he left.
"Amon… do you think Dawn was upset?"
"I thought so… he has a heavy load in his heart but his occlumency levels suddenly went up this week…. I wonder…."
I patted Amon’s arm relishing the fact that we could go to our paradise tonight…. Dawn’s eyes showed an internal struggle, it was a constant look. Even I, who could relate to people by observing their emotions could not do so with Dawn.
