CHAPTER 42: BOUND BY THE RAYS OF LOVE:
TAEEN'S POV:
My internship went rather well. Smooth and fun. I made a bunch of friends. There was even a guy called Firiz who confessed his love for me. I said that I was interested in someone else. I think he understood that the someone was none other than our teacher and the king of our planet.
Amenatsu or Amon had been distancing himself from me... out of shyness perhaps or nervousness, I didn't realize. I was too busy trying to learn all the things I had to learn as the princess.
Meeting the prophecy master was absurd. He ran away from the palace when I came into the room. Amon met him later and told me it was a senile moment. He was a poor liar.
Three months had gone by since the day I landed on Jerome. And many more since I met Amenatsu.
It was the best moment of my life.
The two suns stood one under the other setting off beautiful rings in Amenatsu's eyes as he stood in front of me with his hands behind his back.
He was so much taller than me. So much more powerful. So much more... than what I thought of him.
He read my thoughts.
"Taeen, I'm nothing that you think I am not."
The moons were rising. It was a day that came once a year, when all the three moons and the two suns came together in the sky. A day of unions.
I sat on the cushion by the edge of the balcony and asked him to follow suit.
He sat in front of me. The hesitancy in his eyes was prominent and it prevented him from being normal, to me.
I passed him a fruit from my basket.
The view outside was beautiful.
He passed me another fruit in return.
Only, the fruit was very hard and very small. I opened my palm and stared at the glittering ring in my palm.
I asked innocently, "Is this my control? We planned to go shopping together...."
He smacked his forehead with the heel of his palm and sighed, all the tension running off.
"Taeen, I wanted to ask if you could be my bride? I have to get married in the rainy season... the prophecy master said that.... Would you..."
AMENATSU"S POV:
I stood on the inverse sky, waiting for my bride to appear. I wasn't sure Taeen would agree so easily. What would have happened if I hadn't told her I was the same as Amenatsu? What if she hadn't remembered me? Would she still have agreed to marry me.
The rituals had taken so long that I was almost assured that I would never get to hold my wife. Wife.
Prince Washita asked me to find his sister and look after her.
Did he want me to be her husband as well? I had to find the answers from his shrine.
My gaze went towards the people coming inside. Zuniyah sat with Hayame and Dawn. Hayame checked on Dawn every now and then. That was a love story in its own wake. Dawn wouldn't let her do anything, getting her drinks and refreshments.
There were so many people I knew. Almost all the Primes had sent representatives. This small program was broadcast to all the houses.
It was a pleasant surprise for the people; their own princess would be with them. The few who were invited were all members of the staff.
Nanette and Shane stood at the gate checking everyone under the pretext of being the ushers.
Ru and Mia who had secretly planned the grand event for us ran around arranging everything.
This wedding was different from any that occurred in the universe.
The bride and the groom stood in front of friends and family and chanted a poem of vows for each other. That was the last ritual, all others were held within the confines of the Amalgam temple. This temple was beckoned for the wedding of the royals.
The king and the queen.
It was a first that the temple and the people would witness a Jeromian princess's marriage.
For the first time, someone who was not from Jerome was king and a native princess would be the queen.
**
Right after the second sunset, Taeen, my beautiful bride stepped off the royal carriage. Her sea eyes heavily decorated with blue shades, searched me.
It was magical. The moment that passed then. A moment I would treasure till eternity.
With the slow chimes of the bells in everybody's hands she advanced gracefully towards me. The dais created by clouds.
I stood alone, waiting with my heartbeat racing wildly.
Her slow lonely gait brought her to the edge of the dais.
The prophecy master who sat in the front row chanted in hushed tones to prevent whatever evil would befall us in this life of eternity. His disturbing prophecies tortured me but I held them away to relish this happiness.
"Amenatsu...?"
I extended my hand and she slid her palm along mine to hold on forever and ever.
I pulled her up as we collided together. There were giggles and little bursts of laughter from the attending people. I let out a nervous laugh to which Taeen whispered in my ear, "That was very romantic Amenatsu...."
I regained my composure and as the bells quietened it was time to recite our words.
I looked around. The people here had seen such things before. I was new to this. So was Taeen.
"You or me?" I asked.
"I'll begin."
She turned to me and began, the people listened, some with tears of happiness others with smiles. The other emotions I failed to notice. I didn't wish to notice.
Her voice, soft and brimming with cadence, filled the atmosphere and my heart.
"Under the skies of Jerome and the eyes of the heart I desire...
I bow to the beauty of his kindness, the elegance of his intellect...
Let me drown in the fathomless ocean of his power...
Bless me with the trust to believe in my soul that desires nothing more than to love you with all of my being."
I didn't realize how hard I was holding back from taking her in my arms as she said those words.
Her hand found mine and she egged me on, to let roll my vow.
I cleared my throat as noiselessly as possible and let the words caged in my mind free.
"To wait for this day was an agony of its own kind...
To love and not know the passion of being loved by the one I loved...
And the joy of being finally able to revel in the awareness of your love was a bliss that I cannot articulate...
Bless my heart, already yours, bless us, to bend the rays of love for once to unite us through all times-
Of life...
Of love...
Of joy...
Of sorrow...
Of loss...
And of death....
Taeen Jerome, will you be mine?"
Her answer came as the traditional kiss on the forehead and I kissed her forehead too.
We held hands and stood in front of everyone.
A small vehicle much like the Earth car stopped at the gate and stood.
The intern groups Taeen worked with gifted us with rain. It was supposed to be a drizzle but they lost control of the cloud which turned into a torrential rain. Laughing we ran into Ru and Mia's gift- the car.
I slid into the driver's seat and Taeen into the other side.
The rain followed us everywhere we went.
It was beautiful as we drove to the edge of the province where the ocean began. It was lovely.
Taeen looked into my eyes and said softly, "I can't believe I'm a married girl...."
"Can you believe you're the Queen?"
"Ah yes... that too. But Jerome's royalty is much like everyone else so it's not hard to accept. Being lucky enough to be your wife is unbelievable...."
I placed a hand on her cheek and relayed the love I felt for her. She giggled with happiness.
The smile on her face was unlike I could describe.
She placed a hand on my forehead and the visions I saw consumed me alive.
She showed me her dreams of us loving, living and thriving together.
The rain had slowed and the car inside was cool.
I opened the door from my side and went over to Taeen's side to help her outside.
"Being a gentleman aren't you?"
I flipped my braided hair behind and held her hand. She grabbed on and emerged outside.
Hours later, I sat with Taeen sleeping on my shoulder as we lay on a grass patch in our paradise.
Will it forever be this way? This good?
Will we forever be in love?
Thinking of the uncertainties of the eternity I could call life scared me. Uncertainty was what made my life interesting.
I had one more life to take care of.
Taeen's breath fell softly on my neck and I reached out to cradle her closer. Taeen... please don't leave me. I hope I can keep you secure and safe.
How shall I word my feelings? Will you understand without me having to tell you.
Her brown hair, which was flowing free now, cascaded down. I stroked the gentle stream and waited for the three moons to set, so by dawn I would return to the Lilac palace. From there we would leave for a holiday destination. A month off as king and queen.
Things back home would be normal in a month.
In a month we would return from a planet created for tourism- Eldorado, the first of its kind, the best.
My soul had finally become one with my soul partner.
The magnitude of our powers would soar. We had yet to learn the further stages of control.
**
"Taeen, shall we go back to the palace?" I looked at my bride with love.
"Why don't we stay a while longer?"
"There is a place I want you to see. It's called Eldorado."
Her eyes twinkled in anticipation and my heart felt calmer than ever. Our fingers entwined together, we drove off into the welcoming dawn.
Dawn gifted us a chain with a small box, which would open the day it had to. Strange.... It could be worn as a locket. I hung it around a framed photo of us on Earth. The little box was hidden behind the flowers at the edge of the frame.
Neither me nor Taeen thought we would need to think of the words Dawn told us while gifting it to us.
I couldn't bring myself to let go of the premonition of danger I felt.
The words of the prophecy master echoed in my head as I drove back to the repaired Lilac palace...
'... the brutal murder of her unborn child...'
