Forest Fire
Though this is the time of rains and flash floods, the poet would like to pay homage to all those lovely wildlife that was killed during the forest fires in the scorching summers of recent years.

As though reaching the sky;
So much, above my reach.
But wait! What’s this?
An orangutan beyond, jumping from one bough to another;
There’s a squirrel scampering away, bushy tail at its hind;
The chameleon with its majestic crown, takes a measured step;
The badger on the ground, moves out of its sett
To become an unwitting catch for the rattlesnake.
There’s more to unravel I think;
As I hear the busy chirrups of the birds at large,
Broken by a hoot and I look up to see a nocturnal owl.
The overriding colors so overwhelming,
In the blush of summer,
The echo of vivacious nature’s unfolding animation.
Suddenly there’s something in the air,
As the entirety's thrown into a tizzy
The summer heat so still and so effervescent
Burns through the top of the forest;
I hasten away.
In a flash the canopy’s ablaze
The unending fire, smoldering on;
Killing the magic of the forests,
Leaving behind the smoldering cinder
And an allusion of a panorama long-gone.
