For Celebrities, NOT dating "FILL IN THE BLANK" is Hot News

It’s a relatively new phenomenon in the celebrity gossip rags that non-news (literally) is being reported as news. From Lindsay and Sam not breaking up to rumors of lawsuits over the "Twilight" book series being untrue and, on a related note, continued reports that Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are not dating, it seems that non-news is just as good as real news. So, in that vein, we’d like to report on some folks who are not dating one another.

For the record, Michael Phelps is NOT dating Miss USA runner-up Carrie Prejean, who also goes as "Miss California" and "Miss pissed of Perez Hilton with her anti-gay-marriage stance." Tragically, she’s better known as the latter rather than the former (or by any other title) because of the ridiculous nature of celebrity blogging and reporting. Early last week, it seems, Prejean’s grandmother noted that the comely Miss California was dating Michael Phelps. Not so, he said. "I’m not dating anybody. I’m single. My private life stays private." Side note: I saw Michael Phelps walking down the street in Fells Point (Baltimore, MD) last week. I can confirm that he wasn’t with Prejean, because I definitely would have noticed her.

Asked about Phelps during the pageant, Prejean herself noted, "That’s not appropriate to answer right now. He’s a great man...You can call me on a later day and we can talk about that." Phelps was asked about Prejean’s take on gay marriage and took the easy way out, nothing, "I’m not saying I support her...I’m not saying I don’t support her." Hmmm...
