Method to Install Foam Crown Molding

Remember: before you purchase the foam molding pieces, count the number of rooms you wish to install in, and measure the size of the walls, i.e., height of the wall and the total size of the room. Tools Needed

• Foam Crown Molding
• Caulk Gun
• Foam Adhesive
• Miter Saw
• Paint or Stain
• Paintbrush
• Painter's Putty
• Tape Measure
• Angle Finder
• Sandpaper

Procedure

Step #1: As already discussed in short about the act of measuring the room's area, once you have performed that, it's time to determine the angles of the wall and ceilings. Measure the total angle of the area of installation using an angle finder and then divide it by two (2). This way you will know how much angle you will have to cut on every piece of the foam molding.

Step #2: Then grab a miter saw and make the measured cuts on the molding. Make sure you cut the molding firmly and steadily to avoid any toothed edges.

Step #3: If still, you happen to develop rough, toothed edges on the foam molding, use sandpaper to smooth 'em. Smooth edges are important since they would add to the overall appearance of the room.

Step #4: Once your foam molding is nice and smooth, it's time to install it. Grab a caulk gun using which the foam adhesive would be easier to apply. In a 'S' shape pattern or a zig-zag pattern, apply the foam adhesive at the back of the newly cut foam molding. Immediately press the molding against the ceiling or the wall. Press it hard for about 60 seconds just so you avoid any sort of gap between the molding and the area of installation. Leave it to dry.

Step #5: Once it's dried, fix all the seams in a continuous manner at the common point and use the painter's putty to fill the void between any molding pieces.

Step #6: Well, your installation is over and the molding has been fixed neatly. Next what you can do is paint the crown molding to the color of your choice. Leave the paint to dry for a while and then take a look at your finished project.
