Fish Species at Florida Keys

• Amberjack: A very strong fish found in Key West, available round the year, but abundant in Nov. to Dec. Caught in conventional spins.
• Barracuda: It is a game fish available round the year in Florida Keys. Tackled by fly, spin and conventional means.With the improvements in reels this lightning quick fish is beginning to get the respect it deserves as a game fish.
• Bonefish: These fish are very fast, long and unpredictable. Caught by fly and/or spin. Abundant during May – Sept.
• Cobia: It is a very ugly fish with very good taste and resembles brown shark. Nov. to March is the peack season to catch these fish.
• Grouper: It's kind of war fish and hits like a submarine, so get ready for a brawl. Light tackle and trolley tackle are used to catch it.
• Kingfish: It is a smoke fish famous for its blistering run. Found during Dec. to March. Tackled by fly, spin and other means on light tackle and trolley tackle trips.
• Marlin: It is the best catch for big game anglers. Big swarms are found in Key West.
• Permit: Catching this fish is little tricky. Only skilled and cunning fishers can get big catches. Found in abundant quantities during March to May. Caught on flats and light tackles.
• Sailfish: It surfaces with its erect sail and chases violently slashing at the bait with its bill. Abundant during October-April.
• Snapper: It can be easily caught by fly and spin round the year.
• Tarpon: This fish is famous for its size, strength and acrobatic leaps. Catching it is an obsession for many avid game fishers. May to July is the peak season for tarpon catch.
• Tuna: It is good fish for a gourmet treat. It is also one of the strongest fish in Florida Keys. Plentifully available during Oct. to Jan.
• Wahoo: It is one of the fastest fish alive. The fish is characterized by its sizzling runs. It's available round the year but abundantly during Sept. to Dec.
