Floating Candles for Pool
Planning to add floating candles in your party décor? The following information on the various shapes, designs and colors available for floating pool candles will help you choose the right ones...

Floating candles are manufactured slightly differently from the regular candles. Many come with a long burn time of more than four hours, thus saving the hosts from the hassle of replacing the candles, every now and then. Those which come with a fuel cell inside, usually filled with paraffin oil, can go on for as long as eight hours and are thus, the best option for any party. For those who are willing to invest a wee bit more, there are battery backed candles available too!
The Size and the Shape
When buying floating candles for a pool wedding or party, there are two things that you should always keep in mind. First and the foremost is the size. As far as possible avoid very small candles. They should be minimum two inches in diameters as large candles are much more stable than the smaller ones. The second thing is the shape of the decorative candles. They should have a flat base, a sunken middle, wide top and a narrow bottom so that they can float easily on water. If the shape of the candle is bowl-like, it keeps the flame from getting extinguished by the breeze.
The Colors and the Designs
Floating candles are available in a variety of trendy, funky designs and colors to match any kind of party or wedding decoration. There are the flower candles, available in the shape of lotus, water lilies, sunflowers, roses, daffodils, orchids, etc. Then there are leaf floating candles, insects and bugs-shaped ones, butterfly-shaped, star candles, round disc ones and many more. As for the colors, you can easily find those which complement your wedding or party color scheme - right from the elegant white and ivory candles to the shimmery silver and golden ones, to the sunshine yellow candles and the bright red ones!
How to Make Floating Candles
As candles can sometimes add a lot to the decoration budget, a good idea is to buy them in bulk. You can use a few of these candles at this party and keep the rest for future use. Or otherwise, you can even make your own candles at home. For candle making, all you need is wax, a double boiler, wicks, molds which are wider at top and narrower at the bottom, color and fragrance. Start with melting the wax in a double boiler. When the wax melts, add color and fragrance to it and mix properly. Next, pour the wax into the mold. After the wax has cooled a bit, add wicks in the middle of each candle. When the wax has hardened completely, trim the wicks, about one-fourth of an inch. That's it! Through this easy method, you can create your very own floating candles for centerpieces and pools.
You can change the mood of any party with some clever use of floating candles. For instance, by keeping the lighting dim, lining the pool with candle luminaries and floating colorful bright, round disc candles, you can give the party atmosphere a very romantic and mysterious appeal. Another good idea is to float a number of large plastic trays in the pool as candle holders and keep colorful tea lights on them. Making a grid with fish-line and then placing different kinds of candles in each of the "squares" will draw each and every guest's attention to the pool decor. If you are planning to keep tables, extend the pool decor to them by placing a few floating candle centerpieces. As you can see, with a bit of imagination and creativity, you can add an entirely different dimension to your party decor with these decorative candles!
