Flip-Flap

In school, and in love. Yes, I was young once, and I still remember that day ...
Flip-Flap
I saw you –
Flip-flap
Went my heart.
Profile averted,
Eyes downcast,
Lip bitten,
My stomach churned.

What do I say –
Hi-hello-how-are-you?
Think fast!
Well, think deep.
Count to ten,
Don’t panic.

Read –
No, think:
How to him
Shall I speak?
Must I appear
Busy?
Downcast?
Bothered?
Bright?

Be stoic –
But I can’t!
I’m tense
I’m scared
I’m panicking
I’m incoherent.

But flip-flap –
There goes my heart.
I can feel
My eyes lit up
And my lips move
To form a smile.

You saw me –
And here you are.
