Flax the Omega 3 Source PowerHouse

Flax high in Omega 3, loaded with soluble fiber and full of cancer fighting lignans. The seeds have so many health benefits you should try and figure out a way to add it into your diet. Find out why you should be adding Flax to your diet.
Flax

I like to put a nice big spoonful of Ground Flax Seeds into a cold glass of Orange juice. It is very good this way. I have also been known to put it in my early morning yogurt. The seeds have so many health benefits you should try and figure out a way to add it into your diet. It also is a decent source of Protein. Plus it has a good number of vitamins. The following are in the seed - B-1, B-2, C, E, and carotene, iron, zinc, and some smaller amounts of potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, calcium, and vitamin E and carotene.

You should ground it as you use it. You can purchase a cheap grinder and use that anytime. I say that but I buy mine already ground. I am just too lazy to ground it every time I want some Flax. Remember what your Mother says Do as I say not as I do. The reason I say to ground the flax as you use it is because there is so much fat in the seeds that they tend to go bad. Anyway I have read many places to grind as you eat.

Omega 3s

This is one of the best omega 3 sources. To learn more about Omega 3 please click the link below. The only bad part is that it is in form of ALA Omega 3 and must be converted into EPA or DHA in order to be used by the body. If you read down to the next sections you will see that this omega 3 food has many other benefits that make this one a non issue. If you happen to be a vegetarian look no farther to increase those good fat levels. It is good stuff.

Lignans

Lignans are plant compounds that mess with estrogen activity. The seeds have more lignans then most other plants. Lignans have been suggested to help menopausal symptoms. The seed has been studied quite extensively. The seeds seem to be a very good defense against cancer. Some studies suggest it reduced the size of breast and colon tumors. Golden seeds are also antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral. My friend this appears to be one great food.

Excellent Source of Fiber

A quarter cup of ground seeds contains about 6 grams of fiber. To put that in perspective that is as much as 1½ cups of oatmeal. Now that’s a lot of fiber. They are high in soluble fiber which is the best kind of fiber. This can help things keep flowing correctly (if ya know what I mean).

Dr. Johanna Budwig

I have seen Dr. Johanna Budwig mentioned quite a few times throughout my research on this source of omega 3. Dr. Budwig is from Germany. She created a diet of cottage cheese and flax oil and freshly ground seeds. This diet supposedly helped many people - even terminally ill patients. You can Google the name and get all the needed information if interested. This sure does seem interesting to me.

Conclusion:

Flaxseed as a food is one great and healthy addition you can make to your diet. It has so many healthy side effects it’s almost criminal not adding a tablespoon here and a shovel there. The following tell the reason to add ground flaxseed to your diet.
  • Omega 3 – ALA
  • Lignans
  • Soluble Fiber
