Ways to Pop Corn
If you do not have ready popcorn, take ½ cup high quality corn kernels. Heat canola or any other vegetable oil in a large saucepan over medium high heat. Add 2-3 kernels and wait till they pop. Then, add the remaining corn kernels, cover lid and remove from heat immediately. This brings the corns to a near popping temperature. Introduce saucepan to the heat again. Popping will start instantly; keep lid slightly ajar to avoid steam buildup and shake the pan gently in a to-and-fro manner. As soon as popping stops, you can remove pan from heat and transfer popcorn into a large bowl.
Cheese-flavored Popcorn
Ingredients
- 16 cups air-popped low-salt popcorn
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 2 teaspoons garlic salt
- 2 ounces grated Romano cheese
Get the ingredients ready; melt butter and grate cheese as required. Place popcorn in a wide bowl. In a small mixing bowl, combine together melted butter, cheese and garlic salt. Stir well the mixture for even distribution of the ingredients. Pour this concoction over the popcorn. Toss them, so that they are coated with the cheese mixture. Put in individual serving bowls and serve. This recipe will yield 8 servings.
Chocolate-flavored Popcorn
Ingredients
- 12 cups popped unsalted popcorn
- 2 cups milk chocolate chips
- 1 cup corn syrup
- ¼ cup butter
Prepare a roasting pan by greasing with cooking spray. Transfer the popcorn (preferably air popped popcorn) to this pan and keep aside. In a saucepan, combine together chocolate chips, corn syrup and butter. Cook mixture over medium heat till it starts boiling. You may need to constant stirring to avoid lump formation. Pour it over the popcorn and toss for even coating. Preheat oven to 300 degrees F and bake it. Continue baking them for 40 minutes, while stirring in between (after every 10 minutes). Remove from heat and allow to cool down. Separate each popcorn individually and serve.
Caramel-flavored Popcorn
Ingredients
- 7 to 8 quarts popcorn
- 2 cups brown sugar
- ½ pound margarine
- ½ cup corn syrup
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
In a saucepan, add sugar, margarine and syrup. Put over medium heat and bring to a boiling temperature. If you have a candy thermometer, maintain temperature between 234 degrees F to 238 degrees F. Stir in baking soda to the liquid concoction. Remove from heat and pour over the popcorn. Preheat oven to 200 degrees F. Toss and bake the popcorn in the oven for about 1 hour, while stirring after every 15 minutes.
