Flattering Swimsuits

If you're nervous about donning swimwear, worry not. This article on flattering swimsuits will explain why, no matter what your body shape, there's always a way to accentuate your good points and camouflage your flaws...
A vast majority of women (and I say women, more because we're the sex that obsesses over body image, not because men don't wear swimsuits) are apprehensive about getting into the water, only because of the all important issue of swimwear. Summers spent at beaches meant days in the sun, sea and surf, but suddenly, it's not the beach that excites you - it's beachwear that frightens you. While it may be valuable advice to get yourself to a gym and sort out your diet, that's neither the advice I'm going to give you, nor the most helpful. On your need to know list, and helpfully listed below, are some flattering swimsuits, no matter what your shape, size and bank balance.

Choosing the Appropriate Swimsuit

Most of us have problem areas, so no doubt, you have them too. However, just like there are bad points, there are good things too. Too many of us are overly critical about ourselves, and see only the wide hips, the flabby arms and the heavy bottoms, missing out completely on the narrow ankles, maybe the super shoulders and perhaps the long swan like neck. To get an honest opinion, ask a friend, to tell you what she thinks are your best points. Listen close, write down, repeat everyday and memorize, because these are the areas that are your saving grace, and therefore, necessarily, the areas you must accentuate. You'll be surprised at the way the world sees you, trust me. Next, identify your problem areas - most common, are wide hips and big thighs, though the list is practically endless. The frightening thing about swimsuits is the amount of skin they reveal, and you may well end up thinking that there's just no way you're going to get yourself togged up to show off all your cellulite. Why not give the ideas below a chance?

Swimsuits for Big Thighs
There's a whole industry working for you to get you looking slimmer in case you're in doubt. If you're worried about big thighs, shop for a one piece cut high on the thighs, preferably with a V-neck, in a dark color - this will draw the eye upward, and divert attention from your lower half. You could try the skirted styles if you wish, but to me, the hems seem to stop at a strange point and broaden what's already the widest part. Plus, they're kind of, obviously trying to hide something, which just whets the curiosity, and draws the eye. Look around for something with vertical stripes, and hold on for dear life - they're slimming swimsuits! Bandeau tops with detailing at the bust will also accentuate the right area.

Swimsuits for Curvy Girls
If you're curvaceous, voluptuous or just generous, it may interest you to know that there are women out there who envy you, your curves, and traipse through stores looking for tankinis as solution styles, to create the illusion of the curves they lack. Aren't you feeling even a little bit better? If you're curvaceous, my advice would be to flaunt those curves, pick a suit that has at least 15% spandex, to draw attention to your nipped in waist. If the curves seem concentrated on your tummy, making it convex instead of the preferable concave (and the infinitely better flat), there's serious technology on your side. Clothing companies now create corset like construction and fabrics to 'restrain' your tummy, which will make it look like it does when you're holding your breath - when you're actually not. If you're curvaceous on top (lucky girl!) and uncomfortable about a big bust, pick a suit with a supportive style, under-wired tops are a good bet, and square neckline styles will work in your favor.

No matter how much you conceal or reveal, I'm afraid there's simply no solution for low esteem, and no substitute for confidence. You could pick the textbook 'right style' and still be miserable, so remember that you'll only look as good as you feel. Choosing the perfect swimsuits will work their magic on your body, it's you that has to work on your mind, so square those lovely shoulders, put on your brightest smile, and remember to thank people for their compliments!
