Flat Bread Recipes
Flat bread recipes are delicious, very simple to cook and require less time for preparation. Here are some flat bread recipes that you can serve independently or with other spicy dishes.
Finnish Flat Bread Recipe
Ingredients
1 ½ cups all purpose flour
¾ cup wheat flour
1 cup buttermilk
¼ cup shortening
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
Procedure
In a large bowl, combine together the following ingredients - all purpose flour, wheat flour, shortening, sugar, salt, baking soda and powder. Mix them well and pour buttermilk into the mixture. Prepare a smooth dough by mixing with hands. After this, cut the dough into six pieces; roll out each piece into a uniformly thick circle (about 7-8 inches). For easy cooking, you can prick the surface of the dough by using a fork. Preheat oil on a griddle and cook the dough on medium flame. Make sure to turn the dough frequently by using a spatula. Transfer the cooked flat bread in a platter and serve hot.
Onion Flat Bread Pizza Recipe
Ingredients
1 hard flat bread (14 inch diameter)
1 ½ cups kalamata olives (pitted)
1 ½ cup sliced mushrooms
1 sweet onion (finely chopped)
8 ounces swiss cheese (shredded)
3 tablespoons olive oil
Fresh basil leaves
Salt and pepper as per taste
Procedure
In a skillet, saute onion over medium heat until it turns light brown. Stir in the sliced mushrooms, salt, pepper and cook for about 10 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat the broiler oven. Cut the olives and cheese into small pieces. Place the flat bread on a baking sheet and brush the surface lightly with olive oil. Add the toppings evenly on the flat bread, sprinkle cheese pieces at the end. Then, bake the flat bread till cheese melts completely. Remove the baked flat bread from the oven and garnish it with basil leaves before you serve.
Fry Flat Bread Recipe
Ingredients
1 pound all purpose flour
9 ounces milk
2 ounces butter
1 teaspoon powdered yeast
Vegetable oil
Salt as per taste
Procedure
First of all, combine together flour, yeast, salt and butter in a mixing bowl. Gradually add lukewarm milk and knead well for about 10-15 minutes to prepare a smooth dough. Cut the dough into pieces, roll out and fold it in squares. Then roll out the folded square dough and fold again. You can repeat the procedure for 3-4 times for better puffing. Make the final rolled out dough to a thickness of ¼ inch. Cut the dough into specific shapes as per your choice. Once you complete cutting all the dough, heat vegetable oil in a frying pan and fry the dough pieces until they turn golden brown in both sides. Transfer the fried flat bread and serve warm.
You can serve plain flat bread recipes with fried vegetable dishes or other spicy food recipes. Flat breads can also be consumed in breakfast or as snacks with milk.
