Fix my Heart? Chapter 3

Aimee’s POV

I walked to my class still thinking about him. I don’t know why he thought he could kiss me. I don’t think I gave him a reason too. Maybe it was a pity kiss. That’s what I was hoping. ‘I’m so sorry Daniel. I promise that didn’t mean anything to me. It won’t happen again. I won’t let it.’ I said hoping Daniel could hear me. I clutched my bag closer to me and entered my next class. The first thing I noticed was that he was in this class too.

I headed to the teacher’s desk. "Ms. Blake." He announced so loudly that everyone probably had heard. "We’ve already assigned partners for the project we will be starting today." He grabbed his clipboard and began scanning through the list. "You’re partner is, Nathan."

"Uhm. Who is Nathan?" I asked softly so nobody would hear.

He pointed to someone behind me. I turned around and saw him looking at me. He smiled and my stomach jumped into my throat. I wanted to throw up. Literally! That’s how nervous this whole partner thing made me feel. "Please take a seat with your partner."

Reluctantly I headed towards Nathan’s table. ‘Do you not trust me Daniel? Is that why you have to test me so much?’ I was getting a little pissed off at Daniel. ‘You know there’s only so much I can handle?!’ I scolded myself for talking to Daniel in my head again.

I took a seat next to Nathan and let out a sigh.

"Guess you’re not so happy I’m you’re partner." He didn’t ask, it was more of a statement. I turned to look at him and he looked sort of hurt.

"No, well I mean I would have liked one of my friends as my partner. But I guess you’re okay." Half of this was a lie because apart from Daniel I didn’t really have many friends. Except for a few that weren’t in this school. I gave him a small smile. I don’t know why I smile so much around him. I guess he just reminds me a lot of Daniel. Oh no. This couldn’t be good.

He laughed. This was the first time I’d heard him laugh and already I found it addicting. I looked at him closely and noticed he had really nice dark blue eyes. And straight blonde hair that went down to his eyes. Just like Daniel. Gosh Aimee, you can’t look at one guy because he suddenly reminds you of Daniel. I scolded myself. I looked down at my notebook and pretended to write.

"So we’re partners and I still don’t know you’re name." He said.
I smiled. "Aimee." I answered and without even thinking I said, "Double e, no y." I immediately felt a lump in my throat. That was exactly what I’d said to Daniel that first day we met.

"So what’s you’re name?" I said looking into Daniel’s eyes. When we talked I always felt like nothing else mattered just that we were together.
He smiled. His smile always left me speechless. "Daniel. But you can call me Dannie. No y, just i e." He said. That made me laugh when he asked, "What’s yours?"
"Double e, no y." I said grinning at him. He chuckled. That day I knew Daniel would be special. I could feel it.

I could feel tears coming but I held them back. I wouldn’t cry. Not now.

Nate’s POV
When she finished telling me her name she went silent. Her expression was blank but somehow I knew that she was remembering Daniel. I felt a rush of protection rush through me. I had to protect her no matter what. No one could hurt her anymore. I promised myself that somehow I was going to fix her heart. I’ll do anything to see her happy again.

She looked over at me again and smiled. I loved that smile. "Did you listen to anything the teacher said because I sure didn’t?" She said. I laughed.

School went by pretty fast. I was in my last period class when the end of school bell rang. I jumped out of my seat and walked out of the classroom. I’d told Aimee that I would walk with her today because we walked home the same way. I walked outside to the parking lot and leaned against the wall. I watched as everyone passed by, but no Aimee. When finally, I spotted her. She was walking towards me with a sad expression in her eyes. She hadn’t seen me yet, but when she did her whole expression brightened up. She smiled. I felt my heart melt. It felt amazing to know that I could make her brighten up like that.

"Hey." I said.

"Hi." She said still smiling. I smiled back at her and she turned a light pink.

We began walking up the street towards our houses. Suddenly she surprised me because she let out a small giggle. This was the first time I’d heard her laugh and it was beautiful. "Daniel and I used to walk home like this everyday." She looked straight forward as if remembering something. She turned towards me. "He’d ride me on his back." She said with a smile. A tear escaped her eyes and she wiped it away.

I really wanted her to be happy so I said, "hop on."

Aimee’s POV
"What?" I turned to him surprised by his offer.

Since he was taller than me he bent down a little and said, "Come on."
I hopped on. This simple gesture brought back so many memories of me and Daniel. It felt like I was back in time riding on Daniels back. I laughed. I couldn’t stop this felt amazing. It felt right. We got to my house and Nathan set me back on the ground. Without thinking I hugged him. It felt warm and for once I felt safe again. "You’re an amazing friend Nathan. You really are." I said chocking back tears again.

Nate’s POV
Friend. She thought I was an amazing friend. It doesn’t matter I told myself. I still promise that I’ll make her happy, as a friend, brother, whatever she needed. I’d be there for her. I took her face in between both my hands. It felt right. I kissed her forehead and said, "I’ll see you tomorrow." She smiled and walked up to her house. She looked back and waved. I stood and waited until she went inside; finally I headed to my own home. When suddenly my phone began to ring.

I reached into my pocket and flipped it open. I’d received a text message. I opened it up. It was from Becky.

Becky: Where are you babe? I miss you.

I sighed. I put my phone away and kept walking.
