There are many opportunities to make money online. While some of them are scams, others are legitimate and the income potential is very high. The reason that choosing a method of making money online is difficult is because everyone is different and has different strengths. Some people want a simple, basic method that they can duplicate over and over, while other people need to create and utilize their imagination to produce something. While some people are perfectly fine filling out surveys for a couple dollars an hour, other people would be absolutely bored with the monotony of voicing their opinion in the form of a multiple choice questionaire. Before embarking on a work at home opportunity, there are five essential questions to ask yourself.

1. How much time will I have to devote to this opportunity?
While most online affiliate programs claim that you can do this in only fifteen minutes per day, that is usually not the case. Usually to become successful online, you do have to work and often time it takes longer than initially you had hoped.

2. Does it fit with my aptitude?
If you don’t like to write, don’t choose article marketing to make money online. Even though it is free and a wonderful way to earn some extra cash, if you aren’t a writer, forget it. You will fail. Post classified advertisements or try online surveys. Classified advertisements still generate sales while only requiring you to write a few sentences.

3. Is there a good amount of earning potential?
This is a tricky questions because it is not easy to answer. There is a huge amount of earning potential online, however, if you are competing with a lot of other people marketing a hot "make money" product, it is likely that you won’t be as successful as the person who has been doing it for two years and has created websites and backlinks galore.

4. Will the hours be flexible or will I be required to be working during certain hours?
There are some work at home jobs that require you to answer the phone and complete tasks during the regular business day. Affiliate marketing can be done at any time. However, some people need the structure of a 9-5 job to be productive and happy.

5. Is the opportunity credible or is it a scam?
Check out the company before signing up. Find out if they are legitimate and reputable. If not, move on. There are plenty of opportunities. Just because some marketer created a wonderful sales page doesn’t mean it is the right work at home opportunity for you.
