What is Acne?
Acne refers to a skin infection that brings some unwanted changes on the uppermost layer of the skin in the form of pimples, blackheads and whiteheads. Another unwelcome change observed among acne sufferers is inflammation of the skin. The most common areas of the body that frequently show acne manifestation during adolescence are the face and the upper back.

What Triggers Acne?
Acne occurs as a consequence of excess sebum production in the skin. Oil glands, also referred to as sebaceous glands, found deep in the inner layers of the skin, produce sebum (oil). The sebum maintains the moisture level in the skin and prevents it from becoming dry. When these glands become overactive, they produce sebum in large amounts. As we all know, there are millions of tiny pores on the surface of the skin. So with excess sebum production, these pores get blocked. These clogged pores cause formation of whiteheads and blackheads. The blocked pores leads to over growth of skin bacteria. The bacteria thrive in clogged pores, which makes the skin inflamed.

Fish Oil for Acne
Is it true that fish can help to get rid of acne? Yes, this is 100% true. Including fish oil in the diet can work wonders to put an end to this skin condition. Acne sufferers can safely rely on fish oil when it comes to improving skin texture. With the onset of acne, the natural look of the skin deteriorates considerably. However, to restore the natural glow of the skin, fish oil can certainly help.

Fish oil is loaded with omega 3 essential fatty acids (healthy fats) that play a crucial role to reduce production of sebum. So, the root cause of acne breakout is targeted to resolve the issue. Hence, it is rightly said that after consuming fish oil, acne will clear away within a week or two, depending upon the severity of the disease.

The key constituents found in fish oil are eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) or docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Both are omega 3 essential fatty acids and provide anti-inflammatory effects. As acne leads to inflamed skin, fish oil can certainly help to bring down the inflammation. Both DHA and EPA display anti-bacterial properties, thus helping to kill acne causing bacteria.

One reason given behind overactive thyroid glands is hormonal imbalance. Hormones that control the functioning of the oil glands are known as androgens. People suffering from acne have high androgen levels, thus leading to overproduction of sebum. Omega 3 essential fatty acids do an excellent job of minimizing production of androgen, which in turn helps to speed up reduction of acne, eventually leading to acne free skin.

In order to reap benefits of fish oil and promote a healthy skin, one can either consume few servings of fish everyday or take fish oil supplements that are available in the form of capsules. There is no doubt that a good remedy for this skin infection is fish oil. Acne can certainly be a thing of the past with regular usage of fish oil.

Of the many uses of fish oil, acne reduction is a prominent one. Although use of fish oil and acne reduction are linked, taking it in the proper dosage is necessary. It is known fact that fish oil causes acne to diminish. Along with fish oil, one needs to practice certain dos and don'ts, such as avoiding excess exposure to the sun and following an acne diet.
