Finish The Rest
Poem I wrote after reading a bunch of horror stories and the like. Funny enough it's probably one of my least dark poems. Enjoy and let me know what you think.
You're sitting all alone.
No one else is home
The darkness throws her pall
Upon each and every wall
You start to think you hear a sound
Like dripping all around
You look everywhere for the source
but it just keeps getting worse.
Then it stops, all is quiet
And BANG, it sounds like a running riot
A door upstairs must have slammed
Then you think, as alone as I am
Who could have slammed that door?
Must have been you imagination, nothing more.
You return to your seat
BANG, BANG
Then leap to your feet
Was that outside the window?
You look and see nothing but shadow
Wait, is that an angel in the neighbors lawn?
When did they get a statue
You look again and it is gone
Must have been your imagination
You've been awake oh so long
You decide to go to sleep
When you hear inside your head
"Didn't you know? Sleep is for the weak."
But when did you ever claim to be strong
You've been awake oh so long.
You start to head,
Up to bed.
When a chill runs down your spine
You start to think everything may not be fine.
You rush to your room, quickly inside.
Under your covers you think to hide.
You pull your covers all around
But it is darkness in which you are bound
You hear steps outside your door
You're not alone anymore.
Someone else is there
What do you have to fear
You open the door ready to attack
But it's just your sister staring back
Relief washes over your face
As you take her in an embrace
But something's wrong
Her skin is chilled
You look into her eyes
and see she's already been killed
A note is attached to her chest
Don't Look Behind Y---
You don't have a chance to finish the rest.
No one else is home
The darkness throws her pall
Upon each and every wall
You start to think you hear a sound
Like dripping all around
You look everywhere for the source
but it just keeps getting worse.
