Finding Your Place in the Universe
One of the most powerful ways to achieve a pure state of meditation is to focus your thoughts inward, on who you are.

As your physical body was growing and developing through the years, your inner Witness - your real self - was also developing, going from the flesh of your mother's womb to the womb of the Universe. The Higher Power, who created every single atom that composes every molecule and every cell in your body, has made you and your physical presence comfortable with everything else that is provided in the Cosmos. The earth, wind, and fire that are necessary for life were created by the Higher Power in the precise proportions required to provide an environment that is essential for survival and thriving throughout your life. The odds against this existence happening merely by chance are impossible to calculate - so this alone is absolute proof that there is a Higher Power who has the most profound love and the greatest intentions to love you and keep you happy and safe.
The Earth is settled into a perfectly aligned rhythm with the Universe and all the other planets, and their perpetual motion balances their steady dance around the sun. There are hundreds of billions of galaxies, existing in harmony, providing us with the exactly perfect conditions necessary for consciousness to evolve. You will always be loved by the Higher Power who created you, and every atom in the universe is available to enlighten you on a grand celestial stage. It is within your power to become conscious of the vast cosmos and embrace your eternal identity - who you are.
To meditate on who you are in the cosmos, settle your body into the position you have found to be the most conducive to a comfortable meditative state, where you can relax and still your inner chatter while still maintaining awareness without getting sleepy. Command your inner emotions to quiet and leave you serene. With your eyes open, look down on the floor or the ground, and select a tiny spot to focus on - a grain of sand, a carpet fiber, a speck in the pattern of a stone tile. Witness your mind making comparisons, judgments, commenting on the world, but hold your reactions in check. Simply continue gazing no matter how urgently your inner chattering tries to distract and discourage you. The chatter will eventually stop.
As you continue to concentrate, you will gradually begin to see movement in your field of vision. For example, the spot you are focusing on may begin to seem as though they are emitting light, flowing in a swirling pattern around them. This appearance is the nature of reality, simply presenting itself to you on an atomic and pre-atomic level. Continue to concentrate and the air, water, earth, and fire inside and outside you will also unify and join in this light dance before your eyes. With your mind still and your gaze focused, the intensity of your experience will grow until the chattering of your mind interrupts because of being overwhelmed. Language is no longer sufficient, and only your feelings of love can suffice. Even as your internal chatter takes over, keep your inner Witness at one with the eternal silence you have just experienced, and be aware of your total connection with the entire universe and its creator, the Higher Power. You will know without a doubt who you are - a part of the universe. The separateness you felt before will evaporate as a fog lifting, and you will live happily ever after.
When you see people around you who appear to have things easy, yet things are difficult for you, adjectives such as "frustrating," "irritating," "annoying," and "deflating" are often called upon to describe how you feel. You may think that the Who You Are meditation technique can be defined by such adjectives, because it's easy for someone else to tell you to "sit comfortably, just concentrate, and the Higher Power will fill you with the wisdom and wonder of the cosmos." But can you yourself actually do that, for long enough, for your attention to remain focused enough? If so, this meditation will work for you in bringing you peace and love. If not, then the more you practice, the better you will become. Don't give up - persevere. The end result of the Who You Are meditation, like every meditation, can potentially lead you to the end of all stress and effort. And you will, effortlessly, live happily ever after.
