Fighting Death with Love: Chapter 2 - (Bad News)

I just could not resist adding another chapter! And sorry if the examination doctor thing is a little off. I almost never get sick so I would not know! If I do get sick I just drink tea and not drugs!
The next week went more swiftly. My attacks were becoming less frequent, which was a good thing. Everything went well until a doctor's appointment, the same Saturday.
********************************************

"Hisako Yamamoto." The nurse in scrubs with smiley face calls from the examination room.
Okaa-san who is dressed in a faded navy-blue kimono pats my back reassuringly. I nod and enter the room, looking back at the yellow waiting room (A/N too much room word eh?)
"The doctor will be here shortly, just make yourself comfortable." The nurse says cheerfully.
I force a smile and she beams back. When I am finally alone I reach towards my jeans back pocket and pull out my cell phone. Dong-yul had given me his phone number a few days ago. So you don't get lonely, he had said. I sigh and decide to text him.

DONG-YUL: Oh hi.

HISAKO: I'm in the doctor's office.

DONG-YUL: Why?

HISAKO: Just a regular check up, to make sure I'm not getting sicker.

DONG-YUL: Oh.

Just as I am about to reply the door opens and the doctor comes in, dressed in a crisp lab coat with the same nurse trailing behind, her smile not wavering.
"Hello Hisako." The doctor says.
I smile, but in my head I wince. Back in Japan it is disrespectful to call someone by their first name unless you personally know them.
"Hello doctor-"
I steal a quick glance at his name card.
"Doctor Smith."
"Well then Hisako, let's get started shall we?" He says.
I sigh, I know this is going to be long and arduous.
********************************************

After an hour of being probed like a lab rat, I wait beside Okaa-san in the waiting room patiently. Well that is what it seems because inside I am a nervous wreck. Okaa-san seems like she is looking at her lap but in reality I can tell she is sleeping. She said it was a trick that had taken years to master.
''Mrs. Yamamoto please may I have a word with you privately." The receptionist says as she stands up.
I gulp, this cannot be good news.

I shake Okaa-san lightly. She opens her eyes and looks at me like if I were a felon. I roll my eyes towards the receptionist. She seems to catch my message because she stands up.
The receptionist stands up from her desk as well and leads Okaa-san into the x-ray room.
I decide to explore the waiting hall with my eyes. Everything is unbearably yellow with a blue floor which makes the place look like a toy store. There is a plant in the corner looking lonely, while there are chairs all over the place with a red table stacked with magazines in the middle. The receptionist's desk is surrounded by glass with a circle window to speak, and a small rectangle at the bottom to slip papers through. I am about to fall asleep when the x-ray room door opens. A white-faced Okaa-san and the stone faced, the nerdy-looking receptionist emerge from it. Okaa-san makes a gesture for me to stand up.

"What happened"? I ask softly. This did not bode well.
"Hisako, you only have a month to live."
And with that Okaa-san breaks down crying.
