Science Fair Projects for 5th Grade
At 5th grade students are usually taught the basics of science and they are expected to utilize them in their project works. Schools organizing science fairs allow students to set up their project works with a proper presentation. Giving their best performance in the competition spreads like a zeal because the winner gets a prize and a certificate. Handling fire and chemicals is usually done under the guidance of teachers, which is also a way to encourage students with their work.
Growth of Radish Plant in Presence of a Magnet
Do you know that presence of a magnet actually affects growth of radish plant? Try the experiment and observe the results. To perform this experiment, you will need radish seeds (or planted radish plants, 2), self watering pots (2) and donut magnets. Pot the seeds and keep the magnet near the seeds in one pot. The plant that grows in absence of magnet will serve as control. The experiment becomes easy if you are using growing radish plants. After a day or two, you will notice that the radish plant that grows in presence of magnet has a more tilted growth. The height of the plant growing in absence of magnet is comparatively more. This experiment can be supported with appropriate diagrams and statements.
Frosted Glass with Salt and Detergent
It's one of the most common and most interesting idea for 5th grade science fair project. The equipment required for performing this experiment are, Epsom salt, a glass of water, a heat proof glass container, burner and detergent. If you are handling fire for the first time, then I would suggest you perform under the supervision of your teacher. Pour water into the container and add Epsom salt to it. Place it over the heat source and allow water to evaporate till the salt crystallizes at the bottom. Now add a little detergent to it and stir with a spatula. Observe the appearance of glass. Epsom salt will crystallize and look like small needles. This makes the glass frosted. You can get the explanation from your teacher and utilize the similar concept for making your 5th grade science project.
