FIFA World Cup 2010 Standings: Day 2 & 3

Day 2 and 3 of the FIFA World Cup 2010 witnessed 6 league games being played. All these still being the first matches for the respective teams in the competition...
The FIFA World Cup 2010 picked up momentum on day 2 and 3, being the weekend, with as many as 6 matches being played. There were the Group B matches of Korea Republic vs Greece and Argentina vs Nigeria. The Group C matches of England vs United States and Algeria vs Slovenia also took place. Group D also saw some action with the matches of Serbia vs Ghana and Germany vs Australia taking place. Let's see what transpired.

Korea Republic 2 Greece 0 (Group B)
This was the first match of the FIFA World Cup 2010 to produce a result. Korea dominated most of the game, though it was mainly poor defending by Greece that handed the two to nothing victory.

Argentina 1 Nigeria 0 (Group B)
The much talked about Argentinians arrived finally. A header by Gabriel Heinze in the 7th minute was the only goal in this game. Messi was looking good, but Nigeria should be thankful to their goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama, for keeping the score down to what it was in the end.

England 1 United States 1 (Group C)
This was probably the most anticipated game of the first week, and England were the much better side, at least on paper. England scored first, but could not make any more headway. A weak shot by American midfielder Clint Dempsey managed to go through an embarrassed English goalkeeper Robert Green, to give the Americans an important point.

Algeria 0 Slovenia 1 (Group C)
This was a quiet game that looked headed for a goalless draw. But another goalkeeper blunder by the Algerian keeper Faouzi Chaouchi, where he let the ball bounce off his chest into the net, allowed Slovenia to scape home with a victory and take away 3 valuable points.

Serbia 0 Ghana 1 (Group D)
One more game in the FIFA World Cup 2010 seemed to be heading to a dull goalless draw. But 4 time African champions Ghana scored late in the 85th minute through a Asamoah Gyan penalty, and though Ghana missed a few more chances, they would be pleased with taking home full points from this encounter.

Germany 4 Australia 0 (Group D)
Germany, a title contender came to the party as well. They trashed Australia 4-0 and sounded warning bells to all opposition. Klose scored his 11th goal in world cup finals, and is now just 4 short of the world record of 15 by Ronaldo. Also, this is the 6th consecutive world cup in which Germany has managed to win their opening game, a phenomenal record so to speak.
