FIFA World Cup 2010 Results: England Knocked Out

England and Mexico have been knocked out of the FIFA World Cup 2010 in the round of 16. Read ahead...
The knockout stage begun in the FIFA World Cup 2010, and this meant that every match is a do or die situation. The weekend saw 4 matches being played. On Saturday Ghana defeated the United States, and Uruguay got the better of Korea Republic. In Sunday's games, Germany trashed England, while Argentina put Mexico aside to advance into the quarterfinals.

Uruguay 2 Korea Republic 1
Luis Suarez scored once in each half to ensure that Uruguay overcame Korea Republic and became to the first team to enter the quarterfinals of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Korea started off well, but as the game progressed, the South Americans took over and gained control. Nevertheless, a good save late into the game by Uruguay's goalkeeper prevented the Koreans from equalizing and the game going into extra time. They play Ghana in the quarterfinals.

Ghana 2 United States 1
This was Ghana's 2nd World Cup appearance. Previously, they were ousted in the 2nd round. But not this time. Asamoah Gyan's goal in extra time sealed a win for Ghana, and heartbreak for the United States. They play Uruguay in the quarterfinals.

Germany 4 England 1
The German machine was too good for England. Though, a Frank Lampard shot came off the bar and bounced around a foot over the goal line. Strangely enough, this was missed by both the referee and the linesman. If this goal was given, then the score at the time would have stood at 2 each, and may be things would have gone differently. But then the Germans added on the misery with 2 more goals, and have set up a mouth-watering clash with Argentina in the quarterfinals.

Argentina 3 Mexico 1
Interestingly, Mexico had the upper hand in the early stages of this game. A shot hit the crossbar, while another again beat the keeper only to closely miss the goal post. Argentina then got into the groove and took control. In the end, they managed a comfortable 3-1 victory, and now clash with Germany in the quarterfinals, the same team who knocked them out on penalties in the previous World Cup.
