FIFA World Cup 2010 Results: Brazil Knocked Out

Former multiple world champions Brazil have been eliminated from the FIFA World Cup 2010. They had also lost in the quarterfinals in the previous world cup. Many would think that this is a shocker, but the Dutch are on fire, having won all their 5 games in the 2010 FIFA World Cup so far, the only team to do so. They have also not been beaten for 24 games on the trot. Strangely their last loss was way back in 2008 to Australia. In another quarterfinal, Uruguay won on penalties over Ghana to progress to the semifinals, for the first time in 40 years.

It was Orange all the way. And a 68th minute header goal from the short Wesley Sneijder made the all important difference in the end. Just like last time, Brazil were eliminated in the quarterfinals. But all credit to the Netherlands. They have a definite plan in mind and look like a good team. And they have always been the underachievers, never having won a world cup. They lost in the finals in '74 and '78, and that was the best they could do. So things seem good for Orange this time around, and they will clash with Uruguay in the semifinals.

Ghana will only blame themselves for losing. Both teams were locked at 1-1. Ghana had a penalty in the dying moments of extra time, and Gyan, who had already scored twice from penalties in this FIFA World Cup 2010, would have thought this as child's play. All he had to do was score from this penalty and send the first African team ever into a world cup semifinals. But that was not to be. His shot hit the crossbar and the game went into penalties, which Uruguay won 4-2. They will take on the Dutch in the semifinals.
