What is the best measure of a good piece of fiction? Take a poll, and most probably the response you will receive is the enduring popularity of the characters that form an integral part of the book, comic, or cartoon series. Look up any list, and you will observe how timeless the appeal of certain characters is. There are some characters that remain etched in the memories of readers and viewers long after the series they starred in came to an end, or the books they were a part of, stopped publication.

How do you decide which are the characters which deserve a place on the list of all time favorite characters? Simple, famous fictional creations are those that have a significant role to play in the series they were a part of. Characters that influenced not only the generation they were introduced to but generations that came later. They were the inspiration for parodies of their character. These characters had style, were interesting and intrigued people. This list has been divided into two parts, characters from cartoons and comics, and characters from novels.
