Few and Far Between (Chivalric Warriors)
Inside the mind of a wallflower.
Do you still believe your Prince will come,
To rescue you from the bogeyman,
Who hides beneath your bed?
Do you still believe in fairy tales,
That put the wind beneath your sails,
To fly you to the sanctuary in your head?
And do you still waltz in gardens fair,
Wearing flowers in your hair,
Trying desperately to revive a hippie dream?
And do you pamper yourself among the clouds,
Where myths of fabled heroes abound?
Chivalric warriors who play by the rules,
Are few and far between!
Green may be your valley, in the midst of concrete jungle,
And the ancient oak may seem a likely place for a fumble,
But the potholes of society are like bear traps to your soul,
And while your heart's a-flutter at the handsomeness of a smile,
You may as well lose yourself in the moment of awhile,
As the Witchfinder General proceeds to dance around your maypole.
As a cold norse wind blows across dark stormy skies,
And you hold your breath waiting for a rainbow to rise,
Eyes all a-flutter, like a mademoiselle in distress,
The trolls and the ogres are tongue-tied in words,
Senselessly incoherent to your tired discord,
And you can plead through sad eyes, alas, they couldn't care less!
Can you see yonder shadow? He's been watching you a while,
As you sit among the wallflowers in true disappointed style,
Can't you see him hunched in the corner of your mind?
He could be the object of your desires,
Who bears the torch that lights your funeral pyre,
That Witchfinder who shall see your love rescind!
And so your flowers are starting to wilt,
As the bogeyman crawls under your quilt,
To nip your toes with the aid of Jack Frost's fingers,
And the fabled heroes have gone to war,
They fall and they tumble, cut down by the score,
And all your dreams of innocence turn to nightmares.
Cast aside the hopes of which you prattle,
It seems your Prince was killed in battle,
I'm told he went down cowering, on one knee,
Pleading for his miserable life,
He balanced your love on the edge of a knife,
Chivalric warriors who play by the rules,
Are few and far between!
To rescue you from the bogeyman,
Who hides beneath your bed?
