Feng Shui for your home

The spiritual, methodological and decorative way to spruce up your home.
Feng Shui for your home
Feng shui, pronounced Fung Shway or Foong Shway is the spiritual approach to architecture and Interior design. It is an old Chinese art based on Ying and Yang and the flow of Chi, which is the energy present in all things.

The knowledge of Feng Shui has increased manifold, with a lot of people practicing Feng Shui in the home.

To make your house a Feng Shui home, here are a few things you should keep in mind.
  • The main entrance to your house should be free and clean. Do not leave shoes and slippers lying outside the main door. This is done to ensure there is no sickness in the house.
  • There shouldn't be a television set in the bedroom, if there is one and you cannot place it anywhere else in the house, then it is important to cover it with a plastic table cloth.
  • Do not place a mirror opposite or beside you bed, as mirrors attract a third party to the relationship.
  • Take care not to place a refrigerator, washing machine and a wash basin opposite your stove. A toilet opposite the stove is also not practical. This is because fire and water crash causing disagreements between family members.
  • Do not allow children to sleep on mattresses placed on the floor, as this causes them to fall sick frequently. The reason being that Chi, is not able to flow underneath the mattress.
  • Bunk beds should not be kept at home, as the child who sleeps underneath will not be receiving fresh chi. If unavoidable, add a metal 6 rod wind chime or a crystal sphere in the room.
  • A solid wall behind the bed is a must as it means that you can go into a deeper sleep and feel well rested and fresh the next morning.
  • Do not have a marble table in the dining room as that increases work pressure.
  • There shouldn't be a red sofa set at home, as red represents the element of fire, which gives rise to heavy work pressure, trouble and obstacles.
  • Do not place furniture underneath beams as they cause the chi to be pressurized thus, bringing pressures into your life.
  • Position an indoor water fountain at a favorable area in your home to attract whatever you wish for in life.

  • Select a home which offers a water view.
  • Make sure the front door is easily accessible from the road, however ensure that the pathway to the door does not form a straight line.
  • Have only one front door, never two entryways.
  • To select the most harmonious placement of rooms, consult a bagua (map of the energetic qualities of your space, traditionally represented as an octagon with eight sections surrounding the central area, the tail chi) chart.
  • Have high and well lit ceilings.
  • Avoid having long corridors and floor plans that are awkward or cramped.
  • Avoid color schemes that are dark and monotone.
  • Ensure there is plenty of sunlight and air in the house.
  • Have a lot of plants around the house as plants are known as generators of lively chi.
  • Look for a house where there are no beams overhead.
