I Feel Pretty...Oh So Pretty

Buying a wedding dress can turn a happy day into a stressful day. Trying to find a modest wedding dress adds a whole new layer of stress and frustration.
This is the day that you have been waiting for, the happiest day of your life. No, I am not talking about your trip to Disneyland, which is the happiest place on earth (it’s easy to get them confused). On this day you can dress up like a real princess and you get marry prince charming. There will be dancing, laughter and of course the Wedding Cake. Your wedding day has finally arrived and this is a day that is all your own. As a little girl you probably dreamed of this day and to whom you were going to be married to. Fortunately, your dreams of being married to your Ken doll have faded and your real prince charming has finally arrived.

There are so many different things to think about when planning a wedding. Invitations, flowers, cakes and how you are going to convince your Aunt that singing the Power of Love is probably not the best thing for your wedding reception. However, one of the key items to think and ponder about for your wedding plans is the actual wedding dress. Quite understandably, there's nothing as exciting for the bride as shopping for her wedding gown. After all, when will you ever have a chance to spend this much money on one dress again? Your dress is one of the most important items in your wedding plans, so make sure you take enough time to choose one that is right for you. When you do go shopping for wedding dresses you should take a friend or family member with you. You'll want someone who can be honest about how each of the dresses looks on you; so that you are confident you'll look your best on your special day.

One of the biggest troubles for most LDS women is trying to find that modest wedding dress that fits her standards. Yet, often times that modest wedding dress found looks like it came from the 1900s. Or the selections of dresses are so few the dress that is supposed to be unique and special for your day can not to be found. Many LDS women are left to try and buy a dress that is not modest and alter it so that it fits their standards. The problem with this solution is that it could add much more cost to the dress. It also runs the possibility of completely changing the look of the original dress and then we are right back where we started. Finding that modest wedding gown can become very frustrating and annoying. That search could quite possibly turn your once happy and exciting day of wedding planning into a time tears and hair pulling.

To add to the frustration and hair pulling (which, by the way, could lead to early baldness and that is definitely not what you need) is the trouble of finding those modest bridesmaid dresses. Some might not think that to be too much of a worry since the bridesmaids’ dresses are supposed to be ugly and that modest bridesmaid dress that looks like it came from the 1900s will be just fine. However, you are the exception and would like to be able to at least look at the bridesmaids and not be repulsed by the hideousness of their dresses.

Well, never fear. Because many understand the needs of the up and coming LDS brides there are many resources that she can turn to and use. There are LDS magazines, bridal stores that are devoted to selling only modest dresses and many different online resources that provide modest gowns. These wonderful places have everything that you need in order to help you find that perfect gown. Just remember, while you are on that modest dress hunt you just need to have patience, a great sense of humor and some great moral support. Hopefully, using all of these resources will allow you to stop screaming into your pillow and ripping out your hair and actually enjoy planning for your wedding.
